....on my better half a little here.
I know this isn't race related and doesn't fit this forum title but for the lack of having a 'General Discussions' forum on this board, I didn't know where else to post it.
My better half just returned a week or so ago from her deployment in Galveston, Texas in the aftermath of Hurricane Ike with her affiliation with HSUS (Humane Sociarty United States) and NDART (National Disaster Animal Response Team).
She and the many other volunteers that dedicate their time to saving the animals abandoned and effected by such disasters take 1-week to 10-day rotations on these deployments due to the stress and long hours with limited general living facilities.
As you would imagine, she returned with many stories, mostly sad but some with good endings also.
She just posted some of her pics of her participation in the event here:
http://lalasworld4.shutterfly.com/
You can also read her on-site interview as a volunteer on the Bay Area DART home page here: (Last paragraph at bottom of the first article)
http://www.bayareadart.org/
As you can tell, I couldn't be any prouder of my life partner.
Thanks
jf
