In this economy, it's remarkable when a new racer is able to field a new entry in the car divisions. Yet, it's even more amazing when that racer is also a young college student, without any significant financial backing!
Andy "Hot Shoe" Leserra, from Fellsmere Florida will be making his first start in a truck, this Saturday night (October 18 ) at Charlotte County Motorsports Park! Andy is currently a student at Indian River State College in Fort Pierce. When he finishes his AA degree this year, Andy is hoping to continue his studies at the University of Central Florida, majoring in Mechanical Engineering and minoring in Marketing.
Andy has been racing karts for the last seven years, and has won at every track he's raced at during that time, except for two. Andy has won numerous local, regional and money races.
Unlike many young drivers entering the car divisions, Andy doesn't have a rich relative or sponsor to pay his bills. To raise money to buy his truck and engine, Andy sold every piece of karting equipment he owned, including three karts and his small enclosed trailer.
When PBS Sales and Service (Tampa) owner, and Desoto Champ Kart Series supporter and competitor Danny Scopano learned that Andy was planning to enter this weekend's race, Danny realized that Andy didn't have enough extra money for a hotel room, and was planning to sleep in his tow vehicle so that he could afford to come to the track early, for Friday night's practice.
As a result, Danny contacted Andy and offered his late model rig and motorhome to use at the race track this weekend! Danny Scopano will also be in attendance, helping to crew Andy's truck.
At this time, Andy is unsure what numbers will be available this weekend to use on the truck, but he's hoping to race with his familiar 121 (or deviation).
Please stop by and say hello to Andy Leserra at the track on Saturday. Andy is truly an impressive young man, who makes an immediate impression on everyone who meets him.
Andy also has a new website, although it is only a few days old, and is still under development. Andy has been working on it this week, when he's not doing coursework for college, or working at his job. If you'd like to get an early look at his website, please visit: http://www.AndyLeserra.com
When asked about his chances for this weekends race, Andy replied "I've got a lot to learn. My primary goal is to log as many laps as I can, and learn, learn, learn... If I am still running when the checkered flag falls, I will be really happy."
