    http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,...-23770,00.html

it's a crazy looking mountain course which has already put two drivers in the hospital just in practice this weekend.

that's 1,000 kilometers or ~620 miles. on a road course. from hell. with cars that you have to shift with your left hand. go Boris!

if i've got the time differences down correctly they should start livefeed broadcasting this thing around 8pm tonight. they're likely to run for 6 1/2+ hours so if you're an early riser you might could catch the end of it.

Bathurst is without a doubt one of the best shows in all of racing . In fact the Holdens ( GM ) and Falcons ( Ford ) always put on a great show . The series used to be televised regularly on SPEED , don't always see it now . SPEED probably needed more room for infomercials .

weirdly, they count someone with fewer laps ahead of you if you aren't actually rolling around the track on the checker lap. so, you could park your car at the end of the first lap and then roll out again when the leader takes the white flag and you'd be credited with 21st place.

LOOKS LIKE BORIS IS BEING HUMBLED A BIT DOWN UNDER.

          some points to consider:
          • Boris's driving partner, Matt Neal, qualified the team car dead last. slower even than that time from Boris that you posted. this implies both that the car is fairly slow and that Boris's partner is no great shakes.
          • this is only Boris's second race in a car which he has to shift with his left hand.
          • this is Boris's first right on a tight road course on top of a mountain. a little caution might be in order.

for reference, a flying lap at Bathurst:

anybody have any news about what took Boris's car out? and which driver was at the wheel at the time?

Todd, shifting with the left hand may be the biggest adjustment, I know I would probably grab the wrong gear, spin, and sail off the mountain.

Here is what Boris did say about racing with the Aussie's.

Boris Said: "Today was really humbling. I'm glad more of these Aussie drivers don't come to the US and steal our jobs because they're the best of the best - they're a lot faster than I thought. I'm a little disappointed with where I'm at, but I was making progress each lap and tomorrow we'll get quicker and be more respectable. Phillip Island's a great, great circuit, we don't have anything like this in the US, so long and fast. The great thing about today is the fenders are still on the car and we didn't need to go to Supercheap Auto to buy any parts!"

              10-4 on that, good buddy.

my whole life i've driven manual transmission cars. the first time i got in an race car it had an auto transmission. i was picking my right hand up off of the steering wheel in the corners. during the race, i wondered what the heck i was doing but it felt kind of comfortable so i didn't worry about it.

after i came off the track and had time to think about it i realized that it was my hardwired reflexes going for the gear shift lever ( which wasn't there ) because things were getting "hairy".

even today when i run something like the Probe i usually leave my right hand resting on the stick almost the whole race.

trying to shift left handed would just monkey wrench me all up.

i wonder if it would be possible under V8 Supercar regs to bring a LH drive car to Bathurst?
