  • huge crowd at Stunt Wars

So how did they do it? I didn't attend the Stunt Wars show that ran for 3 days at Speedworld. All I know is that when I drove past the track on Sunday, the parking lot was packed. Was it like this on the other days too?

How did it happen? I never heard anything about it, but I don't get a paper or watch TV, and I am hard to reach. Did they advertise on TV, radio or the internet? Were there promotional events? Were the tickets given away?

I don't pretend to know the answers to these questions, but if their show was successful, it would cut the legs out of the myth that Orlando people don't know the track is there, or in "this economy" they can't afford to go.

    Does anyone know firsthand?

all you have to do is look at the mud trucking that goes on in the lot east of OSW or the drag racing that goes on in the lot west of OSW to know that "they can't afford to go" hasn't been the problem up til now. going forward may be a different story.

I am not sure about ads in the newspaper but we did see several ads on TV for stunt wars. Even "Raceweek" advertised it on their show Friday. (Ch. 47 on Brighthouse cable)

Heard a couple of AM SportsRadio spots. Lots of promoting, to the right crowd seems to work, huh. A crowd always brings in a crowd. Guess this promoting thing is kind of like a lawnmower: it's not going to cut the lawn by itself--you have to push it a little bit.

Hmmm.. let's see, advertising and marketing, even though they were minimal equals more customers. that is a new and foreign concept...

I think you have to look at 2 overwhelming variables here...

a.) this was NOT a racing crowd... it could be better compared to a Crash A Rama crowd... and even that wouldn't be too accurate...

b.) This was "AN EVENT"... not something that can be seen EVERY week, 35 weeks per year...

Not to mention that it has a national following and is a very unique event.

You are trying to compare apples to oranges in this case... it is two completely different demographics...

not saying thats the answer... but you can't ignore those variables!

              Hey Mark..
I understand that very well, especially with the general populations yen for seeing people do something that might possibly lead to an accident.. LOL.. but again with effective marketing all things are possible. Mind you I am not saying expensive marketing, just effective marketing and advertisement....

Plus they do (or used too) put on an interesting show... not a bad compliment considering my zeal for short tracks...

You can spend your lifetime savings on advertisment, if what you are presenting is not what the fans want to watch, THEY WILL NOT COME.

                As simple as ABC.

true, but there's also the issues of:
                  a - having a brand presence ( repetition )
b - giving people sufficient lead time that they'll be able to make plans around it

last year OSW made a buy on 95.9 / The Pirate. i was both shocked and pleased to hear them making the effort.

the problem? it was a Wednesday, and they were advertising for a Sprint car show that Friday night. now, keep in mind, i was listening to 95.9 all the time last year, so i doubt that i missed ad plays on previous days, much less previous weeks. they only gave people <2 days to set plans for the upcoming Friday ... when most families have their weekend plans scheduled well in advance of that.

it's kind of like finding out on Tuesday we've got an OSW car show at McDonald's. need more lead time, mang.

if what you are presenting is not what the fans want to watch, THEY WILL NOT COME.

                  well, there is that.

My take on the reason people flock to events like this? Basically the hope that they will get to see someone get FUBAR'd by doing something they wouldn't consider without downing a case of Jack beforehand.......wait a minute, come to think of it, that's probably one of the rules for competition! It's a rubberneckers nirvana! And you don't have to worry about running into the back of another car while craning your neck looking for body parts, blood or charred flesh!
                    PLUS THEY SELL BEER!!!!!
What more could Bithalonians ask for on a weeknight!

Well....unless they had a class for strippers and hookers to "get it on".....(ya have to say it like Mills Lane)

Keep in mind that this was, as I was told, one of the biggest events at USA International. They have a HUGE following and while it is like a Crash-A-Rama it is very different. The crowd was very well behaved and was not a big drinking crowd. The event did not do as well as they had expected, as they were expecting 7,000 people it fell a bit short.

As for advertising they did a TON, I listen to Sirius Satelite radio so I did not hear any of it but I was told by numerous people that it was plastered on some stations.

All in all it was a GREAT event and the parking lot did not tell the story, all of the motorcycle parking was in the pit area...unfortunatly there was no one here to take pictures,,, the loop in the back was Motorcycles handlebar to handlebar all the was around twice and the grass areas were pretty much covered up also.

Only one rider was injured and was back at the track that night to fix his ride!

There is another Stunt Wars event scheduled for January at Orlando SpeedWorld, this one is supposed to be even bigger than the last!

                          Hey Rusty...

Rusty... Glad to hear the event did well for you even though it wasn't as good as they expected.... Nonetheless, I assume that it did for the track what it was supposed to do.... Help the Track out!!...

                              OSW advertising

maybe you should try handing out flyers in the student parking lot at the local elementary school?

I quit fishing because there was no one handing out money at the docks when i got back. Why did you quit racing?
