    Opressive Enviro Regs

Its like speed limits, no one likes them but they are necessary.
I don't think that any body is against environmental regulations. It is just the oppresive regulations that strangle big and small business. Loosen up on the regs some and make it easier to get the damn permits that are required!

if you took apart any of the new cars and trucks the parts and component are made all over the world.they just assembled in the US or Japan,Korea, Germany, etc. the money goes to where ever the company is headquartered. for the most part the japs have been killing the american car market on quality control, gas mileage, and reliable to start with.the last couple of years the american manufactures are trying to turn that around, but in the eye of the consumer the damage has been done.

        BS.

i should have added "oppressive exaggeration" to the list.

Its like speed limits, no one likes them but they are necessary.

more BS ( unless you're trying to conduct back door taxation ). the autobahn disagrees.

So its oppressive to a small automotive business that they can not dump waste oil and antifreeze down the drain?

but you were fine with the EPA requiring refiners to add MTBE to the fuel supply?

you're fine with the requirement that all gasoline will consist of no less than 10% ethanol? even though production of ethanol is a net petrofuel loss because more fossil fuels are consumed in fertilizers, pesticides, farm equipment, processing and delivering to market than is saved by the ethanol added to the gasoline? that's fricking brilliant.

If china had some decent regulations they would not be near as cost effective as an import on many things.

And if it wasnt for imports, many of you could not afford the luxuries you like to indulge in.

so, i'm confused. are you arguing for or against imports? and surely you didn't mean to exclude China from the set of importer nations...

this also ignores that industries which do those things will move to whichever nations remain that don't have the enviro regs. even if you should force the Chinese thugocracy to adapt ( and enforce, *snort*, yeah right ) your namby pamby enviro regs, production would just relocate to Indonesia or Africa or India or etc, etc, etc.

an example of an evil American business being forced closed:
        Clark Foam surfboards

my mother also just informed me tonight that there's going to be a problem with RV production. most of the RV plants in Elkhart county Indiana have shut down in the last year. some of the major companies have relocated/consolidated production to Oregon. guess what they can't do in Oregon? the state enviro regs are so tight out there that they aren't going to be able to do their own lamination any more.

i guess that's just another luxury we'll have to import ... i forget, are you arguing for my point about off shoring American jobs or against it?

I for one have to agree that in recent years past, the big labor unions have not done much to help the situation.... But..

We all must thank one of our "lovely" ex Presidents for the following:

            Opening up NAFTA

Making China the most favored Nation and sending the rest of our manufacturing jobs over there....

Dropping import taxes so that these lovable countries can destroy our economy even further....

And for getting the most expensive Bl#% Job ever in the Oval Office... Especially when they spent billions trying to figure out what happened....

These are just a couple of quickie points...

Now mind you, I am not blaming all of this on him, but.... Those are a couple things...

Thanks Bill... and if you haven't figured it out yet... I do not like that draft dodging (I didn't inhale) jerk....

One stipulation to become President of our fair and wonderful nation... He or she must be a military Veteran.... PERIOD... You send our young men and women into harms way, you must realize what you are doing before you are doing it...

            Have a great day all..

              Labor unions

I worked for a electric utility for 33 years. I was an active member of the IBEW for 33 years and I presently have an inactive membership. The union was there for wages, but more important than that was saftey. I worked with high volage for the bulk of my career and if not for the union saftey program I am not sure I'd be here typing this. I knew personally of many many times when management tried to get union employees to perform work without the safe gaurds we were taught to use. It will take too long to get that here, it won't take you but just a miute to do that, No body will see you and the excuses go on and on. I witnessed a few of those requests by management go bad. Some real bad. I guess a lot of people don't like unions, but me for one think they are nessary. Our wages mirrored the wages of utility workers all over the country. We were payed good but I don't know a lot of people that want to do what we did. With out a union the only saftey net you would have is OSHA, and thats a joke, they only act when an accident happens unless they get a complaint. Just my opinion. Bob....

                hey Flvideo

I didn't to raise your ire.. if you look specifically, I meantioned the big ones. i was actually referring to the uaw style unions.. and yes I happen to agree with you about the ibew, they have helped out with safety standards... i have seen this first hand. so please don't misunderstand me. i have done work with the steelworkers union and sometimes it is good and sometimes bad.

                have a great day all...

Yes Duane I agree, some are not so good, I remember a job I worked one time and the operating engineers were on the job. They tried to forbid us from using our boom trucks. They claimed that was their work. They had no standing but it was just the idea that kinda got us. Another time we were working on a job and a union guy came up to my helper and tried to stop him from rolling up scrape wire. The helper was an aggressive guy and he told him to stick it in his ear basicly. I think unions are good to an extent but I saw a lot abuse. Not in the IBEW but others that we worked around. Fla is a right to work state so you can't be forced to join a union. Now NY is a union state and most occcupations require union membership. I feel thats not so good sometimes. Then agin you think of people working on a union job and not blonging to the union are getting the same benefits as the union people and the union people are paying for the representives to deal with the company. In the 33 years I went thru 2 strikes and both were on safety issues. Bob.....
