  • Daytona: Roval vs Oval

Two weeks ago they ran the infield course at Daytona with unrestricted motors, and this past weekend they ran the oval with a little more than half the horsepower.

    Which race did you prefer?

Leave a note providing the "why" if you like.

Your facts are inaccurate...the roval was run, all classes, with restricted engines and restricted rear gears...

I never knowingly am inaccurate. I seem to be unknowingly inaccurate from time to time. But I give less of a darn about it all the time, so it's all good (for me).

Meanwhile, any comments regarding an accurate answer to the, um, question: which race did you prefer?

not being picky, but the link you posted confirms a tapered spacer required, putting hp at 750...the rear gear was chosen also (approx 3.70) to hold down speed as well...far from an unrestricted package.

One man's "picky" is another man's..."say what...?"

In my opinion, having watched pre-plate/spacer races at Daytona, and a Whale-tail load of Rolex races, and a few plate races, the Oval Course cars had far more throttle response and torque coming off the tight corners, regardless of detail.

A oval-spacer (like it matters) motor would have been a sick ho. In practice for the 500 it typically takes 'em two laps to get going.

In fact, it is precisely more mo and throttle response (and hence, racing...) that makes the road course more interesting to me. If they are nonetheless somewhat restricted...why(NASCAR?)?

Regardless, IMO, net-net they were mo-betta.

We still don't know about your opinion. It's a mystery.

I still love the oval I would rather see the roval rather than tracks like Chicago though

There is certainly room for both.

It appears that the plan(?) for 2022 is cars that are "Austrailian supercar"-like, racing on more road courses.

Although I would like more short tracks per se (& bias ply tires while we are at it), that option is not currently on the table.

Therefore, I certainly agree that road courses provide more excitement than "cookie-cutter" tracks.
