  • facemasks at tracks

Don't get me started on the politics of facemasks. Lets just say that I dissent. Our racetracks need to avoid making them required on a Saturday night because I will not cooperate. I'll go to a different track, or even find something else to do.

    Don't go there track operators.

Counterpoint: Typically we see eye to eye philosophically.

And admittedly, I would suggest that at least part of the covid deal has been hype.

But what part? The stakes are too high for older folk (heavy sigh...). If you don't die early, you get to be one of those.

So, I am not going to a track right now even if they are wearing masks. And I am very, very unhappy about it.

All that said, I think the virus has to work it's way through the population, and it is happening in July rather than March, but it needs to play out before it is unarguably safe to co-mingle. Better late than, um, much later.

Would you settle for a snorkel with a 3 foot extension?

Ok.Fair enough. My turn on the soapbox

If you truly believe that sitting next to someone will cause you to die but marching down the road screaming and spitting as loud as you can causes absolutely NO harm...then you are a special kind of stupid that can't ever be fixed.I have ZERO immunity.Everything I have ever done in life involved a certain level of risk.Every time I ever belted inside of a racecar I assumed RISK.Every time I sit in decrepit old scabbed together grandstands at a racetrack I assume RISK.You can NOT go through your life without it.Every time you touch anything electric...what if the ground was interrupted? Risk....Covid 19 is one form of multiple Corona Viruses.Others include SARS and MERS...these have been in the public for several years while no vaccine has ever been found. Now they are suggesting the country go on hold (for repeated flare ups) until whenever a vaccine is developed.Like what eternity?? Clean your hands and leave a little space would seem like just good common sense. The problem is many were born without it.Disney is justifying packing thousands into their parks even as they try to pressure performers to return to work knowing full well the nature of their position means that person can NOT wear a mask.No matter when you are a corporate giant lodged deeply in the driven policy of one certain political party. There is no logic behind a bar closing but a restaurant not.No logic in no 4th of July fireworks but open protests. It is all being driven by horribly tyrannical policy. With a strongly suggested "do as I say not as I do" attitude. You won't have to worry about something else to do.After January there won't be a racetrack left operating unless they are running electric vehicles. You won't be able to get fuel for anything else...but THEY will. They have an entire national reserve they will have access too while they tell you they aren't hurting the environment because they are doing necessary work.Just like they want you to believe protesters can't get Covid 19 or at least it's for a just cause. These people crying about racism have had NO issues with the plight of native Americans who even today live on reservations they were forced onto and live without basic utilities.Yet they want to tell me how I'm mistreating THEM.If you are truly this stupid...just lock yourselves inside and good ol Uncle Joe will come riding in with a care package.Im living whatever is left of my life.

Stop and think about this for a minute

The federal government put laws in place many years back ensuring my right to privacy pertaining to medical information.Asking me ANYTHING about my health violates both my rights AND that law. When my wife worked in nursing homes the head nurse wasn't even allowed by law to tell the nurse aides if a certain patient had aids.It violated the patients rights of privacy...if I get an exemption slip from my doctor I could go without a mask..but by definition that note violates my right to privacy as I am telling the entire world I have a medical condition...so I'm a criminal for not wearing it and you're a criminal for asking me why not.

            Counterpoint:

04, Lots of soapboxing there on multiple topics. Some I agree with and some I don't want to discuss on a public forum, but for the sake of discussion...

I have taken--and to some extent, still take--risks that others have said are over the top. So I get that.

BUT, if you race cars, or worse yet race cars with bad welds and old belts, and scuba dive, and sky dive, and share needles (!??!), and frequent prostitutes, and hang out in biker bars drinking and smoking...

You might reduce your life expectancy.

Now, precisely where social distancing falls in relation to all that, I dunno.

But I want to live to have a respectable demise, like say, an industrial accident at the racetrack or similar. So I am playing it safe short term.

              Old School,

Precautions is what everyone should be taking.Im seeing that at a couple places, others not so much.Anyone with a compromised immune system has a real reason to be concerned.Everybody should gauge that risk the same way they do taking a drink of boiling hot coffee..if you don't use sense you will get burnt. The mask isn't going to save everyone from everything and everybody needs to realize that.Life shortening choices you say? Most were made by me alone of my own volition and didn't outwardly effect anyone else is the ONLY reason I will wear a covering indoors.Because I do realize it isn't ALL about me.Yet I still have a need to mix into society simply to survive, racetrack not withstanding.Lol as far as a demise?? I always figured ya as the kind of guy who wanted to go out with a bang.I want peaceful..like salmonella poisoning from the racetrack concession stand...or ran over by a leaving car hauler because I didn't use common sense and look both ways.😁

I hear somewhere this side of showtime the wildlife is preparing "nail-sticks" for you.

My guess is they saw the Robert-Mitchum-and-the-power-plant deal...

I have one simple view on this.

If people are legitimately worried then so be it, let them be the ones to wear the masks, stay home, social distance and go into financial turmoil etc.

I can not wait to get down there. Buying this house has been a nightmare but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

If you think what you guys in FL are dealing with, try living in the land of the Libtards... If I am seen in public without a mask right now, instant $300 fine no questions asked.

Ready to finally get to a RED STATE where I belong.

I hate our freedoms being taken away but at certain tracks ie: Daytona and Sebring you mask it if you want to race or stay home...it's their sandbox.

Agreed. A lot of these tracks have guidelines put in place by the state and local governments they need to adhere to in order to keep the doors open for us. A lot of (selfish) people, do not stop to consider that. Yes, it sucks to have to wear one of those things. Especially in the FL heat, but the flip side is, no racing.

If we do not support our tracks, there is a chance that some of them may not make it out of this madness.

Pick your poison and pick wisely.
