  • Corona Virus not affecting central Florida Racing/Sports events...yet

I've been hearing on TV and reading online how so far the WWE has no plans to cancel or alter its upcoming Wrestlemania event at Ray J stadium and the street race in St.Pete has announced it's still a go and likewise for the NCAA March Madness and NASCAR.Good news for all.I was reading a story from back home in Columbus Ohio the upcoming Arnold Sports Festival aka Arnold Classic was at first cancelled then allowed to go on with an altered general admission. It it's current format it holds different bodybuilding/fitness related events/competitions stretching over three different venues and three different locations around Columbus.City officials feared the influx of international competitors/people stretched across the city with open venue tickets was a bit too much.So the festival has been allowed to go on with specific venue admission only.Whats ironic in it at first being cancelled is 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of Arnold Schwarzenegger winning the Mr.World bodybuilding title for whom the current festival is named after (and founded by).I was in the crowd with my dad the day Arnold won in November 1970.All of 12 years old and two weeks after my mom had died.My dad operated a gym in Downtown Columbus from around 1961 -1972 and knew many of the bodybuilders personally. My brother and I met many wrestlers/bodybuilders/boxers/athletes as kids which pointed my brother down the trail of athletics much of his life while my trail went through my dad's body shop which he put more focus on after he closed his gym.

I think it is an over-hyped media distraction. It would be pretty silly if a track missed a week because of it.

I can see Robert Yoho's Showtime Speedway featuring Corona beer as an inoculation...

NBA season cancelled.March madness cancelled.MLB cancelled.St. Pete Gran prix cancelled.VOLUSIA SPEEDWAY now cancelled.Whats next? It's a sad week in this country and unfortunately one that will kill a bunch of people. The bigger thing I fear beyond that is as cancellations continue to mount are how many people will be driven into bankruptcy after the smoke clears?

Showtime Speedway has cancelled for March 14th.It wouldn't surprise me a bit if it is way more by noon today.

Biggest hoax ever committed against this country perpetrated by the fake news media.

Deep South Speedway in Loxley AL, about 30 miles west of PCola, still on for tonight. They've made a bunch of improvements over the off season and I'm glad they have the balls to race. Dirt and race fuel fumes are a great deterrent for the BS going around.

I made the initial post on this thread back on March 5th.A short but very long 4 and a half weeks ago.Now tell me honestly how many of you on here laughed off the original post? And how many of you ever envisioned what has transpired since? It's going to end up being the longest short racing season in history by the time 2020 ends it looks like.

You know, when I was growing up we used to have 8mm films and film strip projectors in school featuring documentaries and "scientists". The assumption and story was that they would test stuff, use the "scientific method" (ie--change one thing at a time and note the results) and prove objective facts.

I believed them then. Now, not so much.

In the '70s & '80s we were going to run out of oil in 30 years, hairspray was killing the ozone layer, and we were heading into an ice age.

Now, they talk about "what the majority of scientists believe". Um, yeah...

                Back to Corona.

Is it bad? (apparently, especially for myself and a significant demographic in most pit areas)

Is it as bad as was first thought? (again, apparently not, but who really knows --yet)

My question: So we are staying inside. Essentially mass self quarantine, sick or not. So...what keeps you from getting sick when you go back to the track, either next week or next month or next year?

At a cost of 4 TRILLION dollars (so far). And do not misunderstand--we are printing the money. That means your money and mine is worth less (not "worthless"--not yet, anyway).

And what did we buy? A slower rate of catching the disease, with conceivably the same number of sick people?

And then there is the fact that you can bet plenty of guvment folks have noticed just how easy it has been to tell us all what we can (& can not) do, essentially jacking us into martial law--over a virus. I would suggest we try to hang onto our second amendment rights.

So, to answer your question, I did laugh off the original post.

And now? Damned if I know if the joke was on me then...or now.

But talking about years ago I have picked up on some weird similarities to when I was a kid. When I went to pickup a couple rx and a few groceries last Sunday the stores were virtually empty(partially due to the current entry policy at Wally World) and traffic was super sparse. At 4 pm.When I was a kid stores were closed on Sunday.ALL stores, grocery stores included. So we're the bars and most restaurants. There weren't so many pro sports teams in fact in those days (even though I'm a native Yankee not gator) Florida had NO major sports league teams. No NFL,MLB,NBA or NHL franchise.Even in my old state of Ohio only one NFL team in Cleveland and two baseball teams and 1 NBA team in Cincinnati. No NHL.So nowhere much to go so no traffic and gas was cheap too.And everybody stopped doing everything to gather around and watch TV together. To see the first moon landing. They're doing that now too but to see if a woman made Tiger snacks out of her husband😃The same experts that we are supposed to listen to and put our trust in are the same people who heard news reports about this virus way back in early January but still look totally baffled and answerless now.So in hindsight I would say the expert moniker took a pretty substantial hit.
