  • NASCAR Changing To One Lug Nut Type Of Wheels

I can say I hate the idea they are slowly becoming like Indy-Formula One cars. I also didn’t like the fuel injection change either it’s the digital dashboard. I guess I’m a traditionalist and don’t want to see them mess up this sport anymore then they already have. Look at The Car Of Tomorrow it was a bust.

    Elmer--

    I agree.

But the direction is toward a cheaper car (since, you know, NASCAR--and hence the teams--cannot command as much sponsorship dough as they used to).

Simultaneously, the current gen of France family is trying hard to fit in with the wine and cheese crowd, and largely ignore their moonshinin' roots.

And the "Australian Supercar" type racing is not bad, so we will see.

Personally, like the stock and real estate markets, I believe the whole deal is currently valued above it's worth and is due for a "correction".

And then a (France ownership) selloff.

After which a new entity (with some money) will return to hardcore short track racing to be supported by hardcore fans.

    But, y'know, I'm wrong a lot...

I hear they are going to built in air jacks also. So much for being “stock” cars.....

        That’s disappointing to hear.

Um, that horse been dead for...50+ years!

For that matter, all local classes that are above the "A" or "G" based hobby stockers are not "stock" cars either. But that is what we all call 'em.

The big question for me is--can they produce consistently closer racing?

Since I maintain the issue is that the tracks are too big to promote good racing--and not the cars at all, I remain skeptical.

Still, every year they have periods of brilliant racing, and the soap operas are occasionally interesting, so I remain a fan.

All that said, I agree--Cup racing was better in the '60s. But then, what wasn't...?

ps--the sporty cars at the rolex look pretty cool bouncing up in the air all by themselves, and the pit crews will be thankful when a smoking hunk scrapes down pit road with one or more flat tires.

Well sure, I agree, the “stock” part is long gone. I just think the current pit stops are fun to watch, and are an important part of the challenge. Indy car type pit stops are faster and easier to accomplish.

              Agreed.

But, pretty much all other types of "big time" racing have the one-nutters, so of course NASCAR wants on board with that.

Come to think of it, Big Bill (and medium Bill too) did not really care about other forms of racing, and were leaders in their time--as measured by their success relative to other forms of motorsport. Now, not so much...

On the third hand, if you have a tire roll a few inches the wrong way or drag a zip gun out of the box--big penalty. Maim your crew member or someone else's, no big deal (except for that guy and his family, of course).

So, if the single lug wheel deal gets the guys out of harm's way a little faster, that is an upside, imo.
