A month ago I posted an idea to get new fans and participants to our local tracks. Naturally, 50% agreed and 50% did not. Here is a simpler version that is a no-brainer.
How about this: a Mario Kart tournament held at the tracks on race night. I had a party in the back yard once, and I rented a video game projector and a big screen. It was a blast! I think six players could take part at once, and lots of people stood around watching. Maybe make it a 6 week fixture and run it every week? Get some of the drivers involved after their race, or during intermission?
What does the winner get? I think a warm up session in a bomber would be cool, but if the winner is too young, then they do a ride-along.
This is inexpensive and would add a lot of atmosphere to a track night!
