  • Auburndale Speedway is available for lease

I really like this track and it is unsettling to see changes coming. Rex Guy is hanging it up at the end of the year, so the track is available. I hope someone or some group steps up to take over. It is a neat facility, and Florida needs all the tracks we can get.

Mr. Guy had his ups and downs, but overall he has done a good job. Wouldn't it be cool if his replacement carries the business to the next big level?

Auburndale is a great track with a great history.

It is largely a one-groove track. Back in the day there was plenty of "moving" the guy to get by, not unlike the "old" --and beloved--Bristol Motor Speedway.

Ernie Bass could also lead--and win--in a lesser car while successfully placing his car in the right place and taking hit after hit. To the best of my knowledge, without complaining.

    Those days could return.

And it also could be a great Wheelman Track.

Rex mentioned in a Facebook post earlier this week 10 grand a month is what he's looking for if anybody wants to step up.

It actually came up in a post by John S. about Desoto being available. It was also mentioned in a couple people's opinion that it would conceivably cost $150,000 to get Desoto back in shape to be race ready.I can't say how legitimate that theory is. My own personal opinion is that IF someone does step up to lease Auburndale (and I truly hope someone does) that they might want to consider some kind of name change.Their has been a lot of negative things posted about the place on Facebook about various things. And I won't step into that but I will state the obvious from my own visits the past couple seasons. The car count AND crowds have both fallen way off the last couple years.I usually sit in the turn four bleachers and I could just about fire off a bazooka randomly multiple times into that section and never hit anybody. The mini stock division has just about disappeared entirely and honestly if the Pro Trucks didn't race there most nights you would never see any division with more than ten cars. The Sportsman have included several street stocks just to get to ten cars since they dropped the Wheelman series this year.I don't think all these things have happened by accident and I don't think the decision to race twice a month to hold " bigger and better events" has proven to be fruitful.
