  • Pocono doubleheader

There is an interesting 2020 schedule change for NASCAR, they are running the two Pocono Cup races back-to-back on the same weekend. The idea may have merit! Instead of two dreary, hot race weekends just a month apart, now fan and teams get to pack it in for a truly huge weekend featuring twin events; a first for NASCAR's modern era.

I have to admit that Pocono is one of my least favorite tracks, and even when I was a fan of TV races, I would be mowing the lawn or napping when this track came around. The twin race format will do nothing to liven up the on-track action, but it will certainly give the event atmosphere a big boost, especially if other classes are added, or if short track events pop up. The buzz is everything.

NASCAR had to try something, and this IS something different.

At first I thought it was a crazy idea, but the more I thought about, the more it makes sense, especially for Pocono. They were one of the tracks that has been mentioned that could lose a date, and this means they could do both races on one date.

      Pocono

They were going to lose one of their dates, so this is a win win, I think it will be great.

"I have to admit that Pocono is one of my least favorite tracks..."

        I heard dat.

Look at it this way: Now one can skip both Pocono races in one day.

IMO, a cool infield road course is what this place needs. Maybe one day.

I get it: three different corners, drives like a road course, etc... But I fall asleep on that front straight.

By the way, it will still take two days to skip both races. They are on a Saturday and Sunday.

At first I thought it was a bad call, but then I thought more about it...this could be a solid win for everyone. For 5 or 6 years running I attended both Pocono races every year, in the late 90's to early 2000's. At that time they used to get one of the most packed, lively infield party scenes in all of nascar. That has really died out since then. I think a 2 day event could bring that back to life! Put a couple support shows in there, and it could be a great time.

Trucks, Nationwide, and two full length Cup races does sound like a lot of racing, maybe they should add Indycars too. Wish I had went to Pocono when I lived up there.
