  • What if?

What if a track were to run it's schedule October to April, mid season break over Christmas/New Years holidays. Depending on dirt or asphalt include special event races to coincide with winternationals running at other tracks January-February including track regular classes. And here's the big one, race time is 3pm having the show down by 7-8 pm before the sun sets. Not having to turn on the lights and not running the same time as other tracks give racers and fans the chance to go to their home track and catch or race at another track? What if?

You posted this yesterday afternoon and not one response. I am a bit surprised. I purposely did not respond till now to give others a chance to speak first. Rick, in theory, I like it, but not sure if fans will show up in the coldest months.

In theory I like it! But on dirt specifically it's been shown a number of times during Winternationals make up races that day racing ends up with a terrible surface. But for the pavement tracks I think early afternoon shows, even on Sundays, could be a winner.

If it is fun, atmospheric and affordable, then I'd be all over it.

You may have to reconsider the idea of not turning on the lights. it gets dark around 5:30 on the shortest days. Starting at 3 would probably require some track lighting.

Your reason is the exact reason I was told it wouldn't work when I made the same suggestion a couple of years ago in another discussion that was being had about all the rain outs.

Not a bad thought. A track could have their pick of classes on any given weekend.

            Maybe a thought for Speedworld...

On the other hand, Florida "winter" months are unpredictable. It may be hot, or raining, or cold. Well, cold enough to keep Floridians away.

In fact, Speedworld and New Smyrna used to run year round on Friday and Saturday nights.
