  • So Sad

Not one post about speedweeks at New Smyrna Speedway, Bubba wins in David Rogers #11 car, out of staters win in Sportsman, Pro Lates and Trucks. Does anyone even care, no results? Guess not.

No one posts much about anything on here anymore... Facebook has sort of taken over and that is sad... This forum used to be so much fun, but most of the members have either left or just don't come here anymore... I don't even post my race result stories anymore because only a handful of folks look at it...

I went to volusia and nss this yr again, i went to login to post a message and my login didnt work. For some reason, its about 50/50 as to whether i can even log in here anymore. No idea why.

Nonetheless, absolutely awesome for Bubba/David, felt like the old days again. Pork chop sammiches at vsp were on point and if they ever get those new grandstands in, i might be convinced to attend more nighta there.

NSS had a great NE mod field and the Monday show w the k&n was pretty dang good.

Re: NSS--Brad May looked stout this year, but the night I was there I was working hard and really didn't watch that much. On a busy night at NSS, the infield feels about like being in the center of a very noisy tornado.

        >Get well soon David Rogers.<

Re: KARNAC--Things change. Cale and AJ and Bobby Dawson were among my heros. All have retired, some have passed on.

But we still have racing--and even that is only for now.

I prefer the simplicity of carburetors, but still, 3 out of 5 of my current rides are now fuel injected. Life goes on...

And if you want to read stuff on KARNAC... post. Even if it is questions or what-ifs or opinions on a given incident or whatever, it all adds to the site and creates interest and...additional posts and interest and so on.

Finally, for the unchanging/objective/can-always-count-on-it truth, we do have God, and His Word through the Bible. Every time I read a given chapter, I get a different personal message.

I was surprised by this as well. I guess as OS said, things have just changed. Speaking of the Pollard/Rogers partnership, I have mixed emotions. I think it showed that even one of the best eventually loses a step.

I was kinda thinking the same thing about David Rogers.I have noticed a couple posts on Facebook the last two days wishing David Rogers to get well and "beat this thing." There was no mention of what "this thing" is,but I'm kinda under the assumption maybe some form of cancer. But I don't know that for sure.Either way it could explain his not being at the top of his game.

My understanding is that thankfully it is not cancer, but obviously something that takes a while to fully recoup from.

I saw David take a hard driver's side hit at Bithlo a number of years ago and I was very concerned, but he fully recovered.

As far as missing a step, the man has taken a heck of a lot of steps along the way, and I think he is a better (and possibly harder-edged) driver than ever.

He is a tough customer and I expect him to come back.

Not sure if you guys listened to the speed51 interview w david, but he said he was going in for some minor surgery in december and they discovered during or after that he has some form of lymphoma, which unfortunately is a form of cancer.

He started treatment today. I have rooted for him for the better part of 3 decades and continue to hope and pray for the best for him. Tough dude and you can bet he is going to fight it. They said it was very treatable and have very good success rates. He just has to suffer through the chemo and keep recovering.

I can tell you this, slm racing will be a lot less meaningful for me if he isnt able to come back. Even lately when he has had some struggles, i love to root for him and keep track of how he is doing. He is the epitomy of a great guy, wish there were more like him.

Very sorry to hear it is more serious than I originally thought. Hoping for a quick and complete recovery for a guy who to me is epitome of a short track racer. Bubba, I feel the same way. It just won't be the same once David hangs up his helmet. Not many like him left.

OS, being an experienced driver myself, but no where near the caliber of David, I feel I can speak to losing a step. I am not the same driver I was 25 years ago. Simply put, lap times tell the tale. I am glad that I have heard him say many times he will race as long as he can climb in the car, but Father Time is undefeated.

Unfortunately, guess there was more to the story than I was aware of.

Joe, rationally I know what you are saying is true. One has more respect for the consequences, and reflexes dull just a little. For sure I have slowed down as a daily routine. And you look pretty quick to me, sir (barring bonkers engine management systems).

But I watched David from his earliest days, and he looks more aggressive now than he used to, yet still just as measured. To me.

Of course, one of my favorite sayings is "I forget things that happened and make things up that didn't these days...".

Still, one of these days Mr Jacques and I will find ourselves on a go cart track together.

You know what they say "Old age and treachery beats youth and exuberance". That said, I wouldn't bet against Phil.

What you said about the old age and treachery thing most surely applies to Mr. Rogers. I would not doubt one bit he is as aggressive or more than his earlier days. That being said, history tells us all athletes lose some of their edge as they age, some just maintain more of it than others.

Indeed. An extension of your argument, though, is our 100%-participation eventual passing.

Which is why I try to keep my "Fire Insurance" up to date. What ya gonna do, other than try to take care of yourself, and enjoy the ride in the meantime?

However, here is the bright side:

The "experts" approximate the earth's age at 4.5 BILLION years (give or take a billion, probably).

Per wikipedia the first auto race was in 1895.

If Ocasio-Cortez gets her "New Green Deal" way, the last will be within the next 10 years. Bizarre in general, it nonetheless has significant support.

BUT, we have, and are, enjoying racing in our thin sliver of time right now, with whatever reflexes we gots. And unlike other sports, given enough will, or money, anyone can participate!

                          Life is good!

I wonder what O Cortez is going to do when she bans gas and diesel engines then the next day her and the other Rhodes Scholars who support the Green Slime Deal discover that their cell phones all contain gold and precious metals and they've just outlawed mining? Do you suppose they will start digging them out with a spoon?
