  • Deja Foo: Sportsman Tires

    "Tires ain't pretty!"--Sam Behr

The various tracks are seemingly all on the same page regarding Sportsman class rules. And that is a very good thing.

Any chance of getting them on one tire?

And while we are at it (gasp, shudder), how about something besides the current American Racer & Hoosier "airplane tires"? I believe both promised good wear and reasonable grip, and yet there seem to be a lot of stickers each week.

If the tracks could agree, they could bargain in bulk with the manufacturers to see who can provide the best deal.

Once the manufacturer was determined, then different compounds could be tested and a winning tire be determined.

Predictable break-away and long wear would seem to me to be the priorities.

    Hey, it could happen.

The promoters won't budge on tire manufacturer. 417 & A-dale say that AR gives them too much incentive as compared to Hoosier giving them nothing. AR tires are also cheaper.

...and then you have showtime, who (Yoho) wants it his way or the highway and he's 100% for Hoosier and I don't forsee that changing.

Regardless of what compound they come up with, you're still going to see just as many new tires each week on these cars as it's kind of become the status quo. We got away with buying just 2 right sides at a Citrus race earlier this year in the sportsman, and I believe the only reason we were so competitive (we won) is because since its repave, the track as a ton of grip.

I don't have preference on which tire we use as I'm sure most other drivers don't either, it just becomes a royal pain in the ass to have to swap tires to go to different tracks.
