ARMED FORCES NIGHT AT AUBURNDALE SPEEDWAY TO FEATURE PRO TRUCKS, SHOWTIME/CITRUS STREET STOCKS AND MORE
Although Memorial Day is still a couple of weekends away, Auburndale Speedway will get a jump on the holiday with a special Armed Forces Night this Saturday night. Veterans from all branches of military service will be honored with special opening ceremonies, National Anthem and prayer. It will also be a fundraiser to support veterans and will feature a special raffle and quite a bit more. Presenting sponsor for the night will be J. C Penny Realty. Veterans attending Saturday evening's activities and all current military in uniform with ID will get $5 off their grandstand admission.
The Pro Trucks are expected to be out in force as this 50-lap race will pay $1,000 to the winner and $200 to start (the field will be limited to 24 trucks.) Army veteran Rob Witham, Jr. has worked hard alongside track Marketing Director Rick Bristol and has raised $2,225 that has been added to the purse and various awards. A total of $529 in lap money has been collected along with another $529 that will go to the "Vets in Need Program." Other posted awards include $100 going to fast time along with a Hard Charger award of $75 and Hard Luck of the Race Award of $50.
Pro Truck drivers have been asked to dress up their machine with a patriotic theme. Each truck will carry an American flag, with the trucks being driven by former military veterans displaying a larger flag.
Cody McDuffie of Bartow won the first two Pro Truck races of the year here and leads the point standings by just two over young West Palm Beach driver Derek Pugh who scored his first career Pro Truck win here on April 28th. Jason "Scrappy" Lester of Palmetto is just six points behind McDuffie sitting third in points while Bradenton's Danny Anderson is just two markers behind Lester in fourth. Mike Kohut of Lehigh Acres is currently fifth in points with Donnie Burkhalter, Cody Blair, Todd Haag, Colt Cecil and Brey Holmes rounding out the top ten. All are expected along with a bevy of other drivers including Billy Carlbert, Jr., Tyler Davis, Eddie Lichtenberger, Jr., Brennon Pletcher, Johnny Marra, Kristen Clements, Adam Briggs, Carter Brown, Leroy Moore, William Kerns, Mark Kemick, Mick Lizzano, Jeff Williams and several more.
The Street Stock cars from Showtime and Citrus County Speedways will be running the first of their "S&C Triple Crown Series" giving the two classes that have similar rules a chance to compete against each other for good money at a different venue. Eric Shane has posted a $25 cash award for Fast Qualifier and Chris Narramore, Sr. and his business Narramore Machine Shop have put up $100 if the fast qualifier starts in back of the field and wins. Narramore Machine Shop has also posted a $25 Hard Charger award and Three Musketeers Racing has put up an extra $25 to the driver who finishes in 5th place.
