  • Late model stock car technology for my "outlaw" vintage C3 Corvette

Once again we have used late model stock technology and parts to build a road race Corvette. A Howe Trans Am front clip was used and mated to a perimeter chassis built by Woody Wood. Instead of a Corvette Independent rear end we used a Nascar type Grand National floater with a chunk that came out of the Joe Gibbs shop. The go is provided by a Byron Koury mill of 327 cubic inches. The block is a Dart Little M fitted with a Callies Dragonslayer crank, Carillo rods and JE pistons. The "vintage" Brodix heads out of the 80's were nicely ported and fitted with lightweight valves. Byron spec'd a nice roller cam from Comp to work with the 11 to 1 compression. Despite being a relatively mild build it made 525 HP at 7200 rpm, and has the bottom end to turn 8000.
A Tex racing T101 tranny out of the DEI shop is a nice piece despite being kinda old.

The front brakes are Nascar Cup Brembo's and the rears are Wilwood superlights.

The body is a 1968 Corvette convertible with the bolt on hardtop and the L88 wheel flares. The body is lightweight glass and was sourced from Corvette America and Stinger fiberglass in Titusville.

The car will weigh about 2500# dry minus driver.

The car will resemble the famous Owens Corning Corvette's from the late 60's.

The car will be raced in SCCA, HSR and SVRA in the southeast.

Fred and Chuck Strube in St Cloud have taken the car from bare chassis to near completion and the car is ready for paint.

I can't get this forum to let me insert a link or image for some reason.

There are pics on Corvetteforum.com under autocrossing and roadracing.

It is at Advantage Motorsports in Daytona, getting new body (C6 IMSA ALMS GT2 type) and a carbureted LS3. Should be ready for action in a couple months or so. It is gaining well over 100 HP.
