  • The Eclipse Derby

Since the country is caught up in eclipse fever, why not try to capitalize with something trendy? Here you go Mr. Yoho, hold the first ever "Eclipse Derby". Put your junker class on the track for a 15 lap race. Run the first 5 laps with the lights on, then flick the breaker off so they can run 5 more laps in the dark. Lights come back on for the end, of course.

I know the lights don't turn on that quickly, but no one is going to try it anyway. Might as well have a little day-dream...

Ironically, seems like the front and backstretch lights were off last time I was there.

        A partial eclipse?

          Well it's all over now

And the winner is........everybody that got money for selling special glasses that either did or didn't work and all the hotels and campgrounds that booked up rooms and campsites for a few minutes of what comes naturally every evening. All the money that changed hands could have filled up every pit area in the state.Boneman was onto something.Just start racing in the dark and people will shell out tons of money to NOT see anything.

That's funny Rex.. But it has been done. Islip speedway ran a blackout derby back in the 70's. I think the field was 30+ cars strong . fun time
