You never know who you are gonna run into when you travel. The track looks like a racey 1/2 mile. I was scoping out the track. I am going to try and shoot the speedfest there in Jan. Bob......

It the Best family, from Sarasota. there is 3 generations or them that were at Columbia Sat. They have raced at Desoto for over 30 years. Big Jim, the grand daddy was racing there when I started there in 1983. I can't believe that with 233 people viewing this post that no one recognized them. Bob.....

Are those basically "Southern Sportsman" type cars? We need more of them, or that once-great class will die. And what a shame if it does.

Hey Jerry, Yes thats what they are, Southern Sportsman. They travel all over Florida. I haven't kept up with them very good but I think they had some kind of controversy and some of them split off. Its a shame because they are an awesome class and theres a bunch of them in Florida. I'd be interested to find out how many were at Columbia last Sat. Bob....

I read there were 15 cars. Three locals finished in the top four. I wonder what happened to Patrick Thomas...

Well I guess in this economy 15 ain't bad. That track looked fast. What kind of times are average? When I was there I just watched Dwayne take a few laps and he seemed to be moving. Oh for the day when there was 25 or 30 car fields in wach class! Bob...

A look at the SSS web site does shows 15 cars raced. But of that number only 8 are members of the Series. That's not very good for it's future.

                  Patrick

Partick hit the inside wall hard, pancaked the right side. I hated to see that. He was in second behind Jeff coming out of 4. It looked like he might have been pushing a little and lost it trying not to hit Jeff. Don't know how much damage he suffered, but it looked like a hard hit. He walked away.

I think the 3 car lost a motor. It might have been someone else, but I think he was the one.

Bob it's not been all of a sudden. It would take to long to on here to list all that went wrong. Aaron and his dad David were in the Series. I was just part of the pit crew.

The main thing that happened to the series is it was sold to FASCAR. I don't know what they did, but right after, the car counts started dropping..

The Southern Sportsman series has not change at all since fascar took over. The only thing I have seen different is that the payout has increased since last year. Yes there may be a few people upset but you will find that, in every form of racing you can not please everyone. The economy is the main thing to blame, its hard for drivers without huge sponsers to be able to travel around the state.

As Mike said the series hasn't changed, except for a better purse structure and now Hoosier tire's. As for the race at Columbia 15 car's 9 series car's and 6 local car's (2 of the 6 local car's used to be series car's), good close racing on a very tight, hard to pass at race track. There were 6 car's on Hoosies and 9 car's on Goodyear's. Most of the series regulars had bought new Goodyear tire's at NSS our last race, and made the decision not to buy the Hoosiers yet, me included. My finishing position was the result of several factor's, #1 I won the last race so I had to start 11th, #2 an early altercation that resulted in me being put to the rear, #3 me telling myself not to settle for second if Prescott got off the bottom of the track to take it, which is what happened in the middle of turn 3 and 4 he slipped alittle and I got a great run under him, this made my car loose, and when Prescott didn't run his normal line down the straightaway, we touched on late corner exit and it unloaded the rear of the car and around it went, I raced at that track for 5 year's and I never hit the front stretch inside wall until now, and I will tell you it didn't budge. All in all it was a good race with car's racing there way through the field depending on how lucky they were on the draw for the inversion.
