Wow! What a show the Super Late Models put on last night in their 50 lap feature at Citrus County Speedway. A strong field, by today's standards, of 20 cars featuring the best of the best SLM drivers in the Sunshine State graced the pits.
The fastest qualifier in time trial qualifying was Nick Neri who received an additional $100 from United Speed World of Tampa for his accomplishment. Additionally United Speed World provided a bonus of $100 to the winner of the SLM feature and $50 to the winner of the feature in the other divisions if the car displayed a United Speed World sticker. If the car did not have a sticker the money would go to the midfield finisher.
The SLM feature boiled down to a tremendous duel between Neri and George Gorham, Jr. who raced side by side for many laps of the race much to the pleasure of the fans in attendance who were just eating it up. The lead changed hands several times between the twosome before Neri finally took control late in the race and went on to take the checkers. Gorham settled for 2nd with Daniel Keene, Jr; Patrick Staropoli; and John Gerstner rounding out the top five. The quality of racing was intense with position battles throughout the field before it was all said and done prompting many fans to comment it was some of the best racing they've seen in years.
Not to be outdone all of the support divisions kept the fans at the edge of there seats with plenty of three wide action and bold moves with each race going right down to the last lap before a winner was determined.
