  • If I was promoter for a day...

Here is something I would try...

    Ford vs Chevy

Not that we need another class of cars, but we do need new ideas and we need a story to sell. Hence Ford vs Chevy.

Ford Mustangs vs Chevy Camaro. All the cars would have to be the newer unibody cars that everyone knows. Maybe 1980 and newer. Their are thousands of them in junk yards and they are very recognizable by the public.

Yes I know that the unibodies dont take the damage a full frame does but if everyone is driving them hopefully it policies itself.

While everyone does race for a championship for one individual. There would also be a TEAM championship for Ford or Chevy. There could also be incentives like a Ford Dealership actually supporting a Ford team.

There will always be Ford guys and Chevy guys, why not take advantage of that. It is also a way to introduce newer cars to circle track racing along with new technology like fuel injection, computers and a whole host of other 21st century items!!!

It would serve us well to see people setting there laptops on the roof of their cars and tuning the car, reviewing the downloads.

We can not wait another 10 years to change, it will be to late.

It is time to move on or die.

Well that is an interesting idea. I wonder if it could be updated?

The whole "Ford vs. Chevy" thing peaked 40 years ago. What if it was "USA vs. The World", domestic cars against Hondas, Mazdas, Acura, etc...

If The World team was ahead of the USA team, it would be pretty bad optics. Who knows, maybe it would inspire patriotic racers to set up?

Good ideas, difficult to execute, I would suggest.

      Current all-chevy fields are light.

Current crate vs anything fields are hard to get equal.

Who is going to step up to build a non-chevy, and who is going to police the rules to keep them equal?

And as Bonez sez, the Chevy/Ford thing peaked years ago, and regarding non US cars, we have mini stocks. They don't get me to the track, and they don't get gen-cell phone set there either.

Again, good ideas, but I would suggest we polish the existing wheel, rather than try to reinvent it.

I really like the US vs the world thing!!

I knew there were far better creative minds than mine out there.

I disagree OS, we do need to reinvent the wheel. Current promoters wont even let people "TUNE" the existing computers.

I say may the best TUNER win!

          Boneman,

The whole USA vs the World is more awesome the more I think about it. Imagine the promotion ideas. They are endless and fit todays culture.

Also the younger generation sees things on a more global scale.

In 3 years it will be 2020!

          Its time to move on.

Better yet, junkyards are filled with S-10 and Ford Ranger frames. Combine them with any junkyard body (foreign or domestic)and you have the same type platform that made modified racing what it was in the 60-70's before the high dollar Troyer cars came in and ruined the sport.

problem now is the wheel has been polished with too many 20 dollar bills

                If it ain't a V8, I am not impressed.

I have not and will not attend a "mod mini" headliner show, much less low dollar FWD cars.

Boneman, no offense, truly, but you could put a Toyoder motor in that sprint car. Or maybe a Jag, since you are a world class kind of guy.

Sure, you would have to mortgage the house and then put the electronics in a motorsickle saddlebag behind yer head, and even then, either you would not be competitive, or the rest of the guys wouldn't.

I will certainly agree (per my last thread) that the costs have gotten out of control, but y'know, a track just (re) elected to go with high dollar cars (again).

And the change from high dollar chevys to low dollar chevys would have to be less expensive and more manageable than mandating another manufacturer, much less ferriners.

Unfortunately, there has not yet been enough promoter pain to enact change. Yet.
