  • What is the best tribute you know of to a fallen driver?

While I have seen many different tributes over the years to a deceased driver, most have been either in the form of a Memorial race, three or four wide salute or missing man formation.A few years back while making a trip back to my old stomping grounds in Ohio Super late model driver Ryan Fleming won the super late race at Kil-Kare Raceway and revealed in the post race interview that he had a vial of ashes strapped to his roll cage containing ashes from the cremated remains of former ARCA champ Lee Raymond. Both drivers hailed from the Dayton Ohio area and both had occupied the seat of the Riverside Auto Parts #1 Chevrolet. Raymond campaigned the car in ARCA following the departure of two time ARCA champ Marvin Smith from the team and was a personal friend and mentor to the young Fleming. So with all the guys here on the board coming from different areas it compels me to ask what other kind of tributes have you seen or heard of?

I have seen it in the past....regardless of points....$$$$......or what not but drivers pulling off (unannounced to anyone but fellow drivers) on last lap and giving the final flag to the "honored" one I have always thought to be a great representation of respect and integrity of the sport we love and those that gave an ultimate sacrifice in the sport they loved also.
At a recent race venue......I was hoping it would have happened....but the nights events were honorable by all involved.
Surprised that no one else has chimed in on this.

Well, it's a quiet thing, but imo the best tribute for a driver is for him to live on in one's memory.

Ernie Bass, Bobby Dawson, Phil Orr, Don L Burkhalter, Dave McInnis, and many more that I cannot recall right now but that come to mind from time to time... The memories of those guys will always be with me.
