What a night it was at Citrus County Speedway last night as we celebrated the life of David Steele who tragically lost his life in a crash at Desoto Speedway on March 25th of this year.
A capacity crowd and 20 sprint car competitors showed up to be a part of "Remembering David Steele Night" at the Inverness, FL oval. There were many tributes paid to David who had an outstanding sprint car racing career that will be difficult to match. You don't get the nickname "Superman" by being anything less than super.
A special "Meet and Greet" with the sprint car drivers was held trackside before the running of the 33 lap BG Sprint Car Shootout Series feature. Each driver had his/her racing helmet collecting donations to the Steele family: wife Lynn and children Bailey, Claire and Brody. A magnificent wood carved sprint car trophy signed by all the drivers was auctioned off drawing $1,400. The outpouring of love for David Steele was evident as just about all the spectator grandstands clear of fans who came down to make contributions to David's family into the helmets of their favorite drivers, get autographs, take pictures, or just the opportunity to chat. It was a sight to behold that was really heart touching.
