BLAKE HADDOCK GRABS SOUTHERN PRO-AM TRUCK SERIES WIN AT BRONSON SPEEDWAY
The Southern Pro-Am Truck Series got the 2017 season off to a rousing start Saturday night at Bronson Speedway with a 30-lap contest that saw plenty of great competition.
Only seven teams were in attendance after several were involved in a big wreck at New Smyrna Speedway the night before and the trucks were not repairable in time to run the following night. A few others opted not to show because of a very bad weather forecast that called for rain all evening.
Fortunately the Bronson track fell into a bit of a "dry zone" as only some light showers delayed the proceedings. Track owner Ann Young was not about to throw in the towel at any point as the big race of the night was for her beloved Tour Modifieds and it would be the only time they would be able to compete before moving east to race the annual World Series at New Smyrna Speedway.
In fact, Bronson would be the only track actually racing on this particular Saturday night as all others scheduling races would eventually fall victim to Mother Nature.
Rodney Haddock would pick up the heat race win and then line up on the outside pole for the feature opposite his son Blake. Taylor Hosford and "Big Nasty" Scott McKay were in row two for the start.
At the drop of the green, Blake Haddock zipped out to the early lead. Toby Grynewicz and Hosford bumped while racing for third but kept going. Before the first lap could be fully completed the yellow was out as Paul Grynewicz slid down the backstretch. He gathered it up after just missing the infield mound that protects the light pole.
On the restart, Rodney Haddock out-drags Blake Haddock and takes the lead only to see caution out again on lap three as Paul Grynewicz loops his truck in turn four. On this restart, Blake Haddock gets the better of things and re-takes the lead as he and his dad begin to put some distance on the field with Toby Grynewicz riding third. McKay takes fourth from Hosford and sets his sights on Toby Grynewicz on lap ten.
McKay is charging and he passes Toby Grynewicz for third on lap 15 bringing Hosford with him into fourth. Racing continues under green until lap 20 when Paul Grynewicz spins for a third time to bring out the yellow flag. On the restart, Rodney Haddock gets the best of Blake and takes over the lead while a lap later McKay and Hosford get together and both go for a slow spin out of turn four as the caution waves yet again.
With McKay and Hosford relegated to the rear of the field for the restart, 2016 Southern Pro-Am Truck Series champion Cole Partelo finds himself now in the third position. Rodney Haddock continues to lead but caution is back out immediately for debris on the track.
Following this restart Blake Haddock starts to catch fire and he goes by his dad for the lead on lap 22 as Partelo moves up to challenge as well eventually taking second on lap 27. Partelo is too far back of Blake Haddock to give him a run for the win, though, as Blake takes the checker over Partelo, Rodney Haddock, McKay, Toby Grynewicz, Hosford and Paul Grynewicz.
The next event for the Southern Pro-Am Truck Series will be the "Watermelon 50" on March 25th at Crisp Motorsports Park in Cordele, GA.
