COLE PARTELO HONORED AT BANQUET AS 2016 SOUTHERN PRO-AM TRUCK SERIES CHAMPION
The 2016 Southern Pro-Am Truck Series Awards Banquet was held at the Chateau Elan Hotel and Conference Center on Saturday evening, January 21st. There were 50-plus attendees and they were presented a tour of the famed 3.5 mile Sebring International Raceway road course by the Courtesy Transportation Department of the Alan Jay Automotive Network during happy hour.
Southern Pro-Am Truck Series President/Director Bobby Owens opened the nights ceremonies by introducing local Highlands County country music performer Austin Hooks who delighted the crowd with some pickup truck-themed songs that were definitely a hit with the all in attendance.
Owens then proceeded to thank all the drivers and teams for a great year. He informed the group of an exciting 2017 schedule that begins with the season opener at Bronson Motor Speedway on February 18th as the Trucks will be on a card that will also feature the NASCAR-type Tour Modifieds.
With the addition of new and exciting race tracks such as multiple races at the renowned home of the CRA Speedfest, Watermelon Capital Speedway in Codele, GA. and a proposed sprint road course race at Daytona International Speedway, 2017 is looking like a fun, and interesting season.
A Buffet style dinner was served while a slide presentation of the 2016 Racing year was shown for those gathered to enjoy. Owens then presented the awards to the top five in season points for 2016. Leading off, though, was the award for 2016 Rookie of the Year that went to Raymond T. Dormer III.
Awards were then presented to fifth in points, Dean Butrum, fourth place finisher Chad Chastain, third place finisher Randy Leonard, second place finisher Taylor Hosford, and finally to the 2016 points champion, Cole Partelo of Largo.
Guest speaker was Wayne Estes, President of Sebring International Raceway, who spoke to the crowd about how exciting the July 9th and 10th Pro Truck road course event was, calling it one of the best sprint races of the year at Sebring. He also discussed the upcoming event, the 2017 12 Hours of Sebring and the new exciting upgrades to the famed facility.
Also in attendance was John Sarppraicone, Sr., previous owner of DeSoto Speedway and Southern Pro-Am Truck Series Race Director, who spoke about the state of racing in Florida. The evening ended with series' sponsors providing some awesome door prizes. It was a great night of food, fellowship and friendship among a great group of quality racers remembering the year past and looking forward to an upcoming banner year of competition.
