JOEY COULTER CHARITY 200 RACE WEEKEND JUST A WEEK AWAY - TRUCK RACE ENTRIES SWELL TO 31
The 11th Annual Joey Coulter 200 Race Weekend is now actually less than one week away and it looks like race fans will be treated to an outstanding weekend of racing, music and fun as organizers hope to raise a record amount of money for the five families being supported this year.
As of Friday, December 2nd, 31 entries have officially been filed for the premier event of the weekend, the 200-lap Pro Truck extravaganza on Sunday, December 11. Twenty-four Race Trucks will start the extra distance grind around the quarter-mile Auburndale Speedway "Bullring." Twenty drivers and their machines will be locked in to the event through Saturday's time trials with the remaining four starters coming from a last chance race. Also on tap are two races on Saturday and Sunday for the Scramblers with remaining Saturday night action featuring a 50-lap contest for the V-8 Bombers plus Mod Minis, Mini Stocks and Three Quarter Midgets.
George Gorham, Jr. of Auburndale, one of the hottest drivers right now in the State of Florida, officially filed his entry for the 200-lap Truck race last week then promptly towed his Sportsman car up to Pensacola where he won the 50-lap Super Stock (Sportsman) race on Friday night that is part of the Snowball Derby weekend at Five Flags Speedway.
Several local drivers are moving up from other classes to make the Coulter event their first ever in a Pro Truck including V-8 Bomber racers Aaron Holmes and Zach Briggs. Scrambler driver William Kerns is the latest entry as he has just purchased a truck he is readying for the big show.
Big Donnie Burkhalter has had a change of plans and has decided to race his truck himself rather than put good friend Kody Jett behind the wheel as Jett ended up having a prior commitment. Burkhalter has been on a good streak at the end of 2016 that includes a Southern Pro-Am Truck Series win at Orlando SpeedWorld.
Entries from Florida's West Coast that just arrived this week were from veteran Mike Gamache of Palm Harbor who will be racing the "Q" truck for owner Bobby Snodgrass along with Mike Newton of Largo who filed his entry just before the deadline for entry into a special tire, fuel and pit pass drawing that will be held this Sunday. Sam Scott of Naples also filed an entry this week as did New Smyrna Pro Late Model regular Blaise Hetznecker of Holly Hill.
The weekend officially gets under way with practice on Thursday night, December 8th from 5-9 pm. Admission is $10 per person. There will be no practice (or testing) on Friday, December 9th or before the gates officially open on Saturday, December 10th.
On Friday evening, December 9th, it's "Charity in the Park" taking place at Auburndale City Park on East Park St. in Downtown Auburndale. This is a FREE night of fun and great music provided by the Nathan Baldwin Band with special guest Madison Grace Rhodes. There will be donation jugs and raffles to raise funds for the families. Bring a chair, and join the fun. Drinks and snacks will be available on site.
Along with all the food, fun and music, there will be a car show as well that you can take part in. If you would like to register for the car show, it is open to cars, trucks, motorcycles and race cars too. Registration begins at 5 pm with a $15 donation to display... however each vehicle’s representative/owner will receive two tickets to either Saturday or Sunday’s racing action. There will be prizes and awards too. Call Bob Gazette at863-934-0223 to register.

Pro Trucks will have their practice session from 2-4 pm with the other divisions that will be racing having practice from 4-5:15 pm. Grandstand gates open at 5 pm.
