  • NSS Grandstands

So i finally saw the aftermath of the hurricane vs the NSS Grandstands the other night at the SLM 100. Let me tell you they have their work cut out for them to get things ready in time for the Gov Cup.

I had mistakenly thought that the support structures would be intact and they could more or less flip them over and be good. Not even close - all that was there were the seating surfaces upside down and bent up pretty good. Would love to know the plan for Gov Cup - at least half the seating not being in order would be a bad thing.

That has got to be a monumental expense - hope they had insurance!

Are you saying that half the grandstands are still damaged? Where is everyone going to sit for the gov cup - it's usually packed...

Dont know how they are now, i am sure they are scrambling to get it all together but two weeks ago, it was a mess.

Isn't that something? I shot by and took a peek, and yes, everything from the big main grandstands heading toward the first turn is upside down, crashed beyond repair. If the remains get removed by Friday, bring a chair and plop down in that area. For the Gov. Cup, those stands used to get packed. Those stands were not anchored at all, and insurance is not going to pay a dime in damages, I'me told.

Once NSS figured out that they have to accommodate fans sitting lower than usual, they have mandated that the infield be cleared of all rigs. This will give a LOT more view of the track for everyone.
From what I understand, the Saturday portion will still be using infield parking.

I went by there today and they were moving all the old ones.
I've been pretty critical in the past but I must say they were hard at work there today. Painting, landscaping and other work being done. Robert himself was out there as well supervising. I will say the painters were about the ugliest bunch of guys I've seen in quite a while.

                Lol

Them painters are some crazy dudes. I did see a big poster hanging of a good looking guy with his Racecar and the NASCAR championship.

I heard from the track that the stands will not be fixed until next year, but Speed51 reports it is only the turn1 grandstands and the main grandstands are still standing...so shouldn't be a problem I hope...
