What a fun night at the races! I made my first visit to the new Citrus, and was impressed by most of what I saw.
The track surface looks great: two lanes and plenty of passing opportunities. Yes, the car count was outstanding, but of course there is a down-side to that: they had a lot of cautions. Most of them were for the back-markers spinning out while the leaders were putting on a great race. It was frustrating. How about this: if you are outside the top 10, and bring out a yellow, you are done for the night. Maybe that would help inspire some of those guys to keep 'em fired up and moving.
I was surprised at the very slow service at the concession stand. This needs some attention: the same person that took my order, also did the payment, poured the drinks and rounded up the food. How about this: instead of having to pour drinks from the fountain machine, sell cans from a big, open cooler. It is MUCH faster and even though the margin may not be as high, the numbers would increase. Also, there were teenagers walking around selling things. Why not give them a big tray of drinks to take around the stands? Think $$$.
Kudos to the grandstand security! I was sitting with some friends, and the clown behind us got steadily more drunk and loud. During the modified feature, he lost control and would not quit screaming profanities, even though there were children all around. Naturally, he also wanted to fight, but someone went to get security and they got back QUICKLY. This drunk's momma had already led him away, but clearly the track was prepared to keep their place family friendly.
Know what else I liked? The DJ! Yeah, they had a legit DJ playing the music, in addition to an enthusiastic announcer.
Final note: I can't remember the last time I saw a 21 car field of modified minis. I thought that class was done for, but there they were, and their race was good too!
