  • cars per class

Cars is the thing that you must have to try to get threw thes hard times.
been looking at the results that I can find.

Desoto posted a 68 car count in 6 classes bit 27 were supers.
27 supers will make up for most anything

Show time posted 80 cars in 8 classes 10 per class if you do the math but 15 or so sprints on a 1/4 mile and fig 8 will save the show

CCS had 74 cars in 6 classes so they were over the 10 car per class.
If you can get over 10 per class the show will be worth watching.

Cant find the results for the other tracks but I have heard of numbers like 4and 6 cars per class I wouldn't post them either.

It looks like a few tracks have been doing a good job in tough times.

I am a numbers guy and I like analysis like this. It needs to be clear to track the classes that work and the classes that do not.

Studying results is fine, but the track who figures out how to generate growth is the one who will make some money and be healthy.

Is it possible to get teenagers to put down their phones and pick up tools? Will "street drag" racers ever climb in and run something more challenging?
Can the complainers in this sport ever be convinced to quit b*tching and get their equipment off jack stands? I am so glad I am not in race track management.

I've always been a believer that one way to help bring up car counts is to combine some of these offshoot classes comprised of the same type and style of car, but have rules just different enough to put them into their own division. Cutting down on the number of classes in Florida and combining them across the board could help. It could take some time to get it right, but like or similar rules for a type of cars with one name for that division is not only less confusing for fans, but more exciting with more cars on track.

Now if only it could actually happen...

The car count per class is important, but so is quality racing in each of those classes. 20 car field running single file with no passing for 25 laps. OR 10 car field passing each other every lap and a 3 car photo finish for the win.
It seems as though Citrus County is planning to keep the number of classes down, and offer a good payout to keep the top quality cars coming out each week. Along with the lowest spectator admission prices in the state to keep the stands full, and get people used to spending their Saturday nights at the race track again. One obvious benefit to that, is drastically increased concession sales since the admission is cheap and the huge crowds have extra money to spend.

Personally, I could count the number of times I have seen a great race come out of ten cars on blacktop on one hand.Dirt is a different matter. Ten car fields on blacktop become drag races in a circle. Single file and even if there is a pass for position where does the skill play in of negotiating through lapped traffic. It's non existent. And that is a big part of round track racing. If a guy can just drive off and leave the field behind and never even have to worry about lapped cars you have a very boring race.Twenty car fields in all divisions should be a mark to shoot for and absorbing some like classes would help.Maybe not as much as in the past but over time it would.Too many classes makes too many choices of what class of car to build. Then you get six and eight car fields.IMO it makes the track look bad,the promoter look bad and like the only real effort you are making is to keep the lights on and open the gates on Saturday night.Giving the fans more by running seven or eight divisions isn't really giving them more when you cut it up into smaller pieces and where is the logic in paying out a winner's purse eight times instead of half of that?
