  • Mike Peters on IFR

I liked what I heard last night on the IFR show. Ocala Speedway owner Mike Peters discussed at length how he has hung the future of his track on the new dirt surface and his reasons for going in that direction. Here is a guy who realizes that the show suffers when too many classes run, and when most of them don't have enough cars.

Prediction: he will be very successful and save his track.

    Goin' For It

Mike and Angie are "DEDICATED" to making Ocala Speedway the premier track in this area. Does anyone else have figure 8 on dirt? That would be koooooool.
Can't wait for the rules to come out to start modifying my old car.

As cool as Figure-8's on dirt would be, I'm concerned what it would do to the track surface. Those things push like a snowplow coming from the infield to the oval portion. Will this cause huge ruts going against the grain of the oval track portion?

I liked the show. Have a new respect for Wayne Anderson. And I thought Mike Peters did a great job explaining his decision. He's already in discussion with the ASCS Rebel Region for a few events. That's great news...I look forward to the "NEW" Ocala Speedway.

            Mike did his homework

The thing I respect most about Mike Peters is his refusal to make rash decisions. Mike has been messing with this dirt thing forever if you think about it, and he has spent months doing all sorts of research into making this project work. Seriously, the guy has done his homework and knows what he is getting into! I have total confidence in Mike and his choices for the speedway and I've gained a ton of respect for the guy. With all of the research he has done, I see virtually no way this plan can fail. This dirt thing is new to all of us at Ocala Speedway. Mike has educated himself well, and now it's my turn. I've never tried to call a dirt race before, so I'm doing alot of watching and learning from TV and other sources. Maybe I'll manage not to sound like a total idiot on opening night.

The only way they would work would be to run them last. That way, they would only be affecting the surface for themselves.

enjoyed what you have said monday nite mike
I have no doubt the what you are putting together for next year at Ocala will be successfull. What's great is that you have done the research and lining up some series to come in and add to the local shows . I think your 4 classes per nite will be good

best for next year mike and we'll see you in march

mike is a very intelligent man... i have no doubt he will find a way to keep Ocala Speedway not only in operation but i think the place is gonna be hoppin soon! mike never gets caught up in all the BS... he is a straight up, hard working guy who treats his track as a business and operates it that way. he isnt on an ego trip and he doesnt waste his time worrying about what everyone else is doing. he does what he has to .... i wish mike and angie a HUGE success in their project!!! i think its going to be GREAT! WTG Mike & Angie! you are in my thoughts and prayers.

The track configuration will be identical to how it is now, with the addition of dirt the only change.
