  • Legendary New England Car Owner Mario Fiore Passes

The NASCAR Modified racing community in New England and beyond lost one of the greatest car owners of all time with the passing last night of Mario Fiore.

He'd been battling cancer for some four years. He was strong right to the end. I'm so sorry to report he's finally lost the battle. Mario was 65 years of age.

I always respected Mario as a genius when it came to buidling and maintaning fast race cars. I equally respected Mario as a person. He was a soft spoken man who let his famed #44 modifieds do the talking for him at race tracks up and down the Eastern seaboard

Mario had the whose who of modified race car drivers behind the wheel of his race cars over the years, but the most remembered would have to be Reggie Ruggiero. The Fiore-Ruggiero team was virtually invincible dominating NASCAR modified racing on tracks from Monadnock Speedway in New Hampshire to New Smyrna Speedway in Florida during the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing in February in the '80s.

I consider myself blessed to have known Mario. He was a special person to me and I will never forget the many visits I had with him at his race shop in Agawam, Mass. Rest in peace my friend and realize you will be missed dearly by those many people whose lives you touched.
