Kudos Patrick Williams.
It's been a long time since I've heard any racer anywhere...that got caught cheating....and came on here or any media outlet....and 1) admitted it. 2) didn't try to lie and put the blame on someone else 3) cuss and whine about the track, the tech man, the guy who protested hims mother....
That was class. And I applaud you for it.
That said, you made a valid point in your explanation. Tech was over as was the race. Should not have resulted in a DQ. About the only thing I've seen that I disagree with Mr. Brooks about.
But.....as he is surely the tech man that all other Florida tech men (and track owners) should aspire to be like and owners should have working for them....
Ricky Brooks was not at the track. The decision was made by the Tech Officials who work there every week. Jeff Sutcliffe and Mark Tanner. Ricky works during Speedweeks and the Governors Cup.
My apologies to Jeff Sutcliffe and Mark Tanner. I'm sure they are doing a great job at New Smyrna. Indeed it is a thankless job.
Apparently the influence of bringing in Ricky Brooks for the "big" events has had an impact on the way they are teching cars at NSS these days. And the racers that post on KARNAC seem to be very approving of this trend.
With that in mind it would be their decision to make the DQ long after post race tech was completed and the results were in the books that I don't support. Kind of like "double jeopardy" wherein a defendant cannot be tried twice for the same offense...
Out of curiousity, how much is the crate motor claim?
Well.... THAT went off course..... but I've got to throw a big CONGRATS to the Jett/Choquette combo that ran 2nd out of 36 in Pensacola, and 1st at NSS.
2 races, 300 miles apart,.....
I LOVE a team that will haul all night to race again.
Too many wimps..... not ENOUGH Jetts & Choquettes
The track made a mistake on this. Once everyone clears tech, and the teams are paid, that event is over. They need to clarify the track's position on this going forward.
If I remember correctly that is definitely more than 300 miles! Impressive weekend for the Jett team
Yes, it's about 330 miles just from Pensacola to Jacksonville.. Drove it many times.
Kudos to Patrick Thomas for his integrity and stepping up to this situation.

RIP Jack Smith and Kim Brown. Many thanks for all you have done for our sport.
Well look at the bright side Patrick knows now you can't run a clutch with aluminum in it . like it says in the rules . now he won't put it back in and get DQ later . Hey I got a ideal when you buy your NASCAR license at the beginning the year they should also have a box you can check saying you have read and understood the rules for the year. In your class . Also in nascar when you are DQ you are fined . is it the same at nascar sanction tracks ? If not should be put that money in the points fund .

Well that is the way that it was back when NASCAR was more then a name. Now Nascar lets you make your own rules for your track. They are just there for the name and a form of Ins. for you and the track. Back in the day if you wasn't right, you would be fined, lose all points to date, and a (2)weeks to think about it. You could not race at any Nascar track till you did your 2 weeks and paid your fine.
