FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. -- Multiple fire crews responded to a fire at a race shop in southern Forsyth County on Friday night.
The fire happened at 1910 Welfare Road, which has a Winston-Salem postal address but is actually south of the city on the Davidson County line.
Crews were dispatched at 7:50 p.m.
The shop belongs to the Bassett Racing team -- Ronnie Bassett Sr., Ronnie Bassett Jr. and Dillon Bassett.
The fire started when Ronnie Bassett Sr. parked a semi truck in the shop to work on it and the truck caught fire, the family told FOX8's Chris Weaver.
Ronnie Bassett Jr. and Dillon Bassett have been racing in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series. The series is a stepping stone to the NASCAR National Series.
The Bassett family said the fire did substantial damage to virtually everything in the building.
No one was injured.
A representative of Bassett Racing said the team was set to participate in a race in Richmond on Monday but won't be able to, because three cars were heavily damaged in the blaze.
NOTE - I have known the Bassetts since they ran Legend Cars and Bandoleros at OSW... Good people and great kids... hopefully all this was insured...
