  • Trucks DQed at A-Dale

Can anyone give me a run down on the trucks dq'ed at A-dale. If half of what I herd is true, hats off to Ricky Brooks for doing a great job. I for one have been very disappointed in the truck class enforcement of the rules. Hopefully this is a step in the right direction, and the rest of the tracks can pick up on this type of enforcement also.

No real need to post specific's about the things that were found wrong on the trucks, but Ricky and myself used the rule book to make the call's on the items. One did refuse to pull down and that is there right. I am sure they will be corrected and come back to race another time. In most cases tech is a thankless job and people think there are getting picked on but we try to make a difference to make sure that everyone is legal. As I speak for myself I do not set out to DQ someone every time I do tech sometimes it happens that way. I do not think Ricky thanks that way but I have not worked with him that long. Like it or not we have a job to do. So let those who were found wrong go about there business and continue to race another day. Most ( not all ) have gotten DQ'ed at some point in time.

I disagree I think all tracks should post why somebody was DQed for a couple of reasons one to let people know . two if somebody is racing in that class maybe they are cheating as well and gives them a chance to fix it before they are caught . Rickey Brooks is the best thing to happen down here for racing he don't take no BS and techs hard but fair .

I agree with you Turnleft, Post what was wrong with the car in tech.
It lets the fellow competitors know what they where racing against.
Tech has been a joke at most tracks in the state. Great job Ricky !!

Perhaps nobody bothered to check the Auburndale results post a couple posts back? It's all in there for the world to see, and Ricky even clarified it. SMH.

It's a real shame it took Ricky Brooks to show the people at DeSoto and Auburndale what a SORRY excuse they have for a tech inspector. He says they went by the rule book, well what have you been using before< These same trucks have gotten by you all the time. You play favorites, you have limited knowledge for the job you are supposed to be doing. Face it , you are at the bottom of the barrell when it comes to tech inspectors.

I like the idea of posting WHY someone gets DQ'ED.... it accomplishes a few things:
Transparency as to the reason leaves out all of the armchair speculators.
It gives a message to teams that may be using the same tricks that, even though THEY didn't get caught this week, the Tech crew does know how to find it. If they find THEM wrong, you're even more guilty if you get caught next week. Their warning, is also YOUR warning.

                        Counterpoint

Here are some reasons why not to make this sort of thing public:

                        >Intent. Sometimes there is no intent. There could then potentially be negative things that could happen to a team. Like sponsorship, present or future.

                        >Execution. It is hard to get every call right every time, or catch every questionable practice or part every single time. If there is any inconsistency, ever, for any reason, it will be a bad deal.

                        >Bad press. From a paying spectator's point of view, is their hero at fault? Is the inspector given the fault? The track? They say any press is better than no press, but is it?

                        >Litigation. I would not rule it out. As long as the story is given verbally and the parties agree, it is done. Put it in print, and...

I would suggest that this deal is like many other indiscretion-type deals, better handled in private.

This note is intended to protect both the innocent and the not so innocent. It is of course the track and or the inspector's prerogative regarding how to handle these things, but the above may contain some things to consider along the way.

ps--Clearly, if there is a question regarding rules, most track promoters and/or inspectors will be glad to help--in advance.

                          Whether

It is made public or not. It took bringing a Tech man from the other coast to get some real tech being done over here. Its very apparent that at the end of the night of a very long race day that Mr. Brooks is not lazy and is not afraid to get his hands dirty for the fairness of competition. It has been a long time coming on this coast. Unfortunately there is only one of him. I hope what he is doing is waking up the other tracks.

Very well said, and my thoughts exactly. There are actually a lot of people on this board, and at the race tracks that fell sorry for these people. It is unbelievable. In my racing days I did my best to follow the rules as close as possible, knowing if I went in the grey area, I could get me tossed.

The truck class has been out of control for years, Mr. Brooks is the best thing that has ever happened to stock car racing. 90% of the tech personally in Florida do not know there ass from there elbow. Most of them are also under the thumb of the owner to only tech certain cars, and overlook others. The rules are and should be black and white, and that is how Mr. Brooks techs.

                            Just my opinion..... Vince P

I dont know about the best thing that ever happened to stock car racing.......lol But its refreshing to see that there is real tech out there again. There were some real tech men several years back in central florida. Unfortunately we dont have Mr. brooks at all the tracks so hopefully he is setting a presedence for all of Florida. Same set of rules for each class at all tracks and yes the same Dam tires as well.............
