  • jeff Scofield returns to auburndale and bags win

Jeff Scofield returned to auburndale speedway last night after a lengthy hiatus and bagged the win in the sunoco challenge series 100 lapper last night. Following an early race spin in turn four by Jesse Dutilly that sent Dutilly to the tail Scofield and Joe Boyd swapped the lead a couple times on restarts with Scofield coming home first followed closely by Boyd. Dutilly recovered for a close third with Dylan bigley fourth and Billy bigley Jr.fifth. twenty two cars started the event and I believe 13 finished. Joe Winchell was involved in a golf cart accident at the track over the weekend reportedly and knocked him from competing. Mike Franklin's car caught fire coming thru turns one and two which resulted in a red flag and Franklin bailing out in a hurry at the exit of turn four. Unfortunately in his haste to leave the car it wasn't locked into gear and rolled down the track and into Paul whites stopped car which had already suffered front end damage from a previous incident with Jon guy.white was able to continue after both occasions but several laps down after the first one.

    The Latest On Joe Winchell

About the golf cart accident, Joe said, "A buddy of mine was falling off a golf kart at the track and I tried to catch him and tore my bicep in my left arm." According to Joe he is scheduled to have surgery next Wednesday.

Joe's wife Lori says that when Joe met with Dr. Vo, the surgeon, he quickly changed the subject to when he can get back to racing. After negotiations Joe managed to get the doctor to say he can go back behind the wheel of a race car on June 18th. That's just like a race driver to do something like that.

Keep Joe's surgery in your prayers that God will direct Dr. Vo's hands in a successful operation and "Hero Joe" will be back racing in short order.

      Joe's Surgery

This from Joe's wife Lori's Facebook page:

"Joe surgery was a success. The Anesthesiologist said when Joe came to he was quoting Days of Thunder. They put him in a HEAVY splint to keep him out of the race car and a sling as he was a little rambunctious when he came to. Thank you for all your concern and prayers! We truly appreciate your kindness."

This is wonderful news. Still we need to keep Joe in our prayers for a full and speedy recovery so we can get him back on the track.
