With 4 great tracks closed last year and so many of you still crying. Why would anyone want to step into this pile of crap.
stop and try to help and keep that crying mouth closed. Someone might open one of those tracks

    Think before you post..

es it looks like we are going to get CCS back.Hope every one goes and helps. Great track.
still there are 3 more paved tracks closed in florida.
We need at least OSW back.
Every time anytime someone tries they get slapped down.
Rember to support your local track.

      You could loose it..

I did give ozzy a call when he first got it and didn't get a return call.
I did bring it back twice but im older now.
Great track but the point is that 4 of the pavement tracks are closed and we lost 2 that are tore down.
It looks like one will try a come back. CCS and I hope everyone will support them even if they don't like something they might do when in the learning curve.
I know that promoters that want to spend the kind of money and work it takes to bring one back from the dead is getting hard to find.
I am hoping the racer will not do the bash and kill they have done in the past.
I still have the passion for the sport that I had when I was 12 years old and don't want to see it go away and it is getting close.
I have many old promoter friends around the country and most of them have had enough.
I talked to a old friend that has been a track owner over 40 years and he it throwing in the towel. When I asked the reason his statement was he didn't want to deal with the new racer.

            Race Track Closing

I race at a small quarter mile in Tn. When the new owners took contro 4 yr ago everyone was excited. Now going into the 4th yr all they seem to do is lose cars an go up on the pit gate, practice gate, concession food,an lower the pay in some of the upper divisions. I hate to say it but when a person buys a 35 dollar pit pass an races the lower divisions an his pay for 5th place is 10 dollars that really doesn't add up.Instead of going out an getting division sponsors for all divisions there answer is the cars in each divison have to pay the purse. There has to be a cost sharing somewhere.Do the promotors expect a person to bring a 20,000 mod to the track pay 30 to get in the pits an 50 entry fee to run for 400 dollars. What ever happened to the fact that you got out an promoted like they use to do. Are is it easier to just sock it to the racer who comes to race an support the track. Could be why some are closing.just my opinion.

The other day I was reading in the small town newspaper were I was born about a A&W type drive in that just shut down. People were making statements like, really enjoyed that place the summer won't be the same, too bad it close was going to go there haven't been there in awhile, too bad I remember as a kid my mom and dad taking us there when we were kids. Etc.Etc. Hey its part of life, nothing stays the same and I still think traveling series is part of tracks closing just as new fast foods places closing down mom and pops drive ins.

There is a fundamental problem with your comparison: no one is building new tracks. Neighbors and municipalities are generally hostile to speedways, the expense is high and the potential return is low, IMHO.

Fast food places are built in a few weeks; racetracks are a rare phenomenon.

Get out there this weekend, buy a ticket or load your stuff and have some fun.

                  Wrll said Rex!

I have been involved with this sport 60 + years and I have seen a lot of tracks fold over the years and some were from people wanting the track out to put something else there. Some because they didn't like the noise. Take Desoto as an example, When Gene and Stanley built that track it was in the middle of no where. Now the county gets weekly complaints from people that have built close to the track! I have seen some go down from lack of support from racers and fans! Don was right the racers are a different breed than they were in my day! I wanted to race and I didn't care if or when I got paid. I really didn't care if I was last or next to last. As long as I had someone to race with. I hear the racer's now say I won't race if they don't offer this or that payout. In those days I don't remember having much of a problem filling the stands either. Most tracks I was at in them days were packed with people. Stimus added 2000 seats to Desoto And filled them up! When I worked at sunshine it was always packed. Same thing with citrus when Critter was there it was packed and the pits full! I think the biggest thing with a race track is to take care of the drivers, as in being consistant with rules and how they are applyed and letting them know you appreciate them being there. Impress on your employee's to treat them as if they were your best client because they are believe it or not! If you consistantly fill the pits the stands will eventually fill too. If you field 20 t0 25 cars consistantly people will come and watch. 3 and 4 car field although it only take 2 to race aren't very interesting to watch or drive. I didn't mean to get carried away but that just my opion fer what ever its worth!

I thought about something just as I clicked on submit. I know now days its hard to field a car in the upper classes IE: OWM Suppers and even sportsman without help. In my day Browny's junk yard was my parts house. I don't think I ever had new parts but I had just as much fun! I realize the payouts have to be there to help those upper classes. Racing today cost a lot of money. I guess what I am saying is if we truly love this sport, we all have to get behind the promoters and pitch in and help promote your local Track. I haven't raced in a long time but I still love to be able to see the sights smell the rubber and the fuel! I spend an aweful lot of my time promoting the sport I love and don't ever get much reward except for being able to do what I do and thats enough!
                    .

Serious question; what is the third one you are talking about?

I know about Charlotte and Orlando, what is the third one- did Bronson finally throw in the towel?

Obviously Hialeah, West Palm, Golden Gate, Lakeland, have all been gone a long time
and Volusia, Ocala, and Columbia went back to dirt but are still open

I think this is a good thread and you're correct Don, there is too much crying and bitching these days and it seems worse I guess with this new age of "social media"
but there are a couple of promoters out there that are not exactly helping their own or the overall situation either....

Already open under the name All Tech Raceway (or Speedway, I forget).
And it's got some genuine excitement going on there. Best thing they could've done is switch to dirt. Fields and crowds are much better than anything I'd seen there in all of its asphalt history (for the most part.... there were a couple of touring series that brought a bunch of cars & fans).

My point was and is. Most people do not care to go to a drive-in to eat anymore. They will tell you they thought it was fun at one time. They have fond memories and yet stopped going. No one took their place. Then it was gone. The same above for tracks.
