  • Georgia/Florida dirt tracks

I should be excited but now fear the demise of some tracks. I just saw a picture of the old I-75 speedway south of Valdosta as it is being prepped for a reopening after over 40 years. This means I-75,SGMP which is converting to dirt,Douglas Speedway which is reopening and All-Tech which will begin its first full season will all be new kids on the block.Established dirt tracks are Needmore,Waycross,Golden Isles, Albany and North Florida are all within a 100 mile radius of Valdosta. There are simply not enough cars and fans to go around. Car fields will be much smaller as the need to travel any distance has been greatly reduced and the same can be said for the fans. All I can say is good luck and may the most honest and fair owner/promoters win.

I think we saw the same image of I 75. That track is north of Chattanooga. But still with sgmp and Douglas opening, it's getting crowded

I sure hope you are right but the image especially the block stands on the side of a hill is identical to the one south of Valdosta. The fact that I have heard no rumblings makes me think you are correct. In addition to the tracks you mentioned Douglas is reopening and All Tech will have their first full season so we still will be glutted with tracks and only All Tech seems willing to commit to a Friday night schedule.

All Tech and SGMP are about 100 miles apart. North Georgia is north of Atlanta, near Chatsworth. I'm not convinced they are competing for the same fields of cars.
