so this will be the third different tire "sanctioned" by fascar so far this season. the slicks, the treaded tires and now hoosiers. sounds a bit ridiculous. by the end of the season they will have wanted you run bf goodrich's and firestones too! if i were you, i wouldn't buy more than 1 set at a time. if ever i picked a good time to get out of racing, this was the year. i wish you all a lot of luck.

3 weeks to use them up is a very short time.

a two day notice to make a middle of the week trip to OSW or NSS for no other reason than to turn in unmounted tires is even less.

I'm surprised nobody made this connection.... what will happen to the "Goodyear Challenge Series?"

Will it become the "Hoosier Cup", or did another series just disappear?

Already working on that. Of course I made the connection... it's the Name of the series I run. Thought about asking for suggestions but...........

I think I will make a call out to Boneman for one of his famous top ten lists for a new series name.

Why do tracks even have rules anymore? They do what they want when they want. I'm with the others on here that said, this is NOT the time to be doing this. Start off the new year 2009 with the new tires if there is going to be a change. I feel sorry for the poor Series drivers that DON'T have the 3 week period of time to use up their tries. Another bad timing thing. With as far as I know no one in management even asking the drivers option. This doesn't seem to be a way to keep drivers coming back. And you have what? 3 days to to return unused tires? They have to get off work (lose of wages) burn that gas from where ever they are to get the tires back to the track. Why couldn't they be turned in this Saturday when drivers get to the track?

Of course management didn't ask the racers opinion, this "decision" was made apparently between old and new management - I know of one person for sure who would have been entirely against this mid season change!

As for the short time to trade in, Goodyear may have set that time. I'm sure Goodyear wasn't pleased with this change either (for whatever reason it was made) and if I was them I wouldn't give a long time to return potentially old or less than well stored tires.

I think for most its not the fact of a tire change, its a tire change without warning in the middle of the season. The other thing is apparently they are not the same Hoosiers that other tracks run. Then it would be a step in the right direction.

Not everyone can come up with $400+ right now for new tires. I know of many that would continue to race on old tires until they had the money.

Desoto will be on the same tires they are a harder compound not as soft as our's,it will same more money for the racer last longer.

Why can't we are get along, hope we see you at the races soon, thanks again. X90 John Sarppraicone

I am sure that it will all work out in the end. One of the main problems with racing a different tracks has been the tires. I just think that a tire change in the middle of the season is not in the best interest of the racers. Some have bought and stockpiled take offs from speed weeks and now they are worthless.

It appears that Desoto will be switching to the harder tire. That is good for the racers, and hopefully people will see this as progress. Harder tires last longer and takes away the advantage of bigger motors.
