  • Racing Cancelled 8/29-8/30...

(08.24.08) In the wake of Tropical Storm Fay and hardships that are being felt throughout our State, New Smyrna Speedway and Orlando Speedworld have decided to stay closed for this weekend (8/29 - 8/30) so that we may focus on helping our neighbors in need.

Although both tracks have come through the storm relatively unscathed, there are many in our community that have not been so fortunate. The latest news reports indicate that the St Johns River is still rising, so we are not out of the woods yet. And the forecast is for more rain throughout the week.

Robert Hart, Owner of both tracks, expressed deep concern for all of the Racers, Staff Members, and Fans that have been adversly effected, and would like everyone to have ample time to rebuild and take care of their families and homes, before focusing on racing.

We look forward to seeing everyone back at Orlando Speedworld on Friday night, September 5th for the TBARA Winged Sprints, as well as, Sportsman, Super Stocks, Mini-Stocks and ABC Towing Strictly Stocks.

New Smyrna Speedway will resume racing on Saturday September 6th with Fan Appreciation Night presented by Bright House Networks, featuring $5.00 General Admission and the Super Stock 50. Also in action will be the Late Models, Pro-Trucks, Sportsman, Mini-Stocks and Strictly Stocks.

We thank everyone for your understanding, and invite everyone that has not been effected, to reach out to those who have, so we can all get back on track as soon as possible.

Its a nice gesture but I dont really agree with this call. Alot of people still go to the tracks to get their minds off their problems. Correct me if I am wrong but I just have to wonder if they are staying closed as part of the transition period for the new personnel to settle in.

Just say you are not racing

It seems like when a track calls the races someone always has something to say about it and then gives their ideal what the real reason is. Tracks do yourselves a favor and just say you are not racing, no reason needed it is your track.

It might end up being a moot point anyway...

Think about it if you can, sounds logical to me. Of course someone is going to say something, we are racers and race fans. That is what we do with out racing, get over it. Im not criticizing anything here, just throwing a thought out there.

            no, you get over it

I still stand by what I wrote. Just think if you live up north you would have only about 3 to 4 more weeks of racing. Down here you still have till the middle of Nov.

Looks like now going into Gulf, that means shutting down oil rigs and gas going back up. Better stock up before it gets close to Houston.
