  • Arca 200

just noticed that, on feb. 13--ARCA tested 69 cars, of ford, chevy, dodge and Toyota. 4 automakers ran their cars and drivers around the giant superspeedway. that,s pretty cool, number wise. a big number that was just last year, mentioned, that the series was running short of machines.

4 automakers, and 69 cars is great---the arca 200 on sat. feb. 13, at 415pm has 39 cars entered, with 6 more tba drivers--that's 45 total, with more to follow.

this is nice to see, and I will go to the race.

Hopefully something has been done to the aero package on these cars to make for a better race... The last few years have seen just a line of cars running nose to tail without anybody actually being able to pass anyone unless it was further back in the "pack"...

The "69 cars" isn't really that... Several of those cars had 3-4 different drivers in them "testing" for a possible spot on several teams... Still it looks like a full field of 40 does look like a possibility again this year although only 12-15 of them have a legitimate shot at winning (Sort of like the old NASCAR GN days)... The ARCA race is still fun though... Can't watch it however, because most everything is now on cable... which I don't have...

The racing was actually pretty good in the arca race last year! It reminds me of 1990's plate racing!

Id like to see Arca have more races in the south and southeast. I imagine that a lot of disgruntled Nascar fans would support them. I can't even think of the last time they raced in the Carolina's or Virginia.

They actually show 68 cars that officially took time, but close enough But I wouldn't be too fooled by that number, it's very artificial. The top 4 cars on the speed chart are all Mason Mitchell cars, which only one is full time and they've rented a couple others for Daytona. You'll see a full field there, but after that you probably won't. Also some of these times might be the same car timed by multiple drivers. A few years ago they claimed "70 cars" at this same test, but in reality it was 49 cars with 70 drivers.
The entry list for Daytona currently lists 47 cars.

I meant to say Jan 19th session. But that's ok. Ancrdave corrected me on the numbers, too. Soooooo, are you saying that the car counts will fall off the map after the Daytona ARCA 200 this year again?

Purely my opinion, but yeah...i believe that will be the case. At least consistently competitive cars. There are tons and tons of cars out there because you can find the cars surplus cheap. So any given race could have 150 cars show up....in theory. When Bobby Gerhardt was selling his stuff last year the listing had like 25 cars, just in his shop alone. I know of at least 4 cars sitting in people's garages up north that *could* be raced if they wanted to, but they haven't in years. So I think each race will likely feature the same ten or so cars actually racing, and the rest of the field riding around playing race car driver.

Cool to see my buddy Steve Fox entered. He usually only runs the ARCA races at Pocono.

I see Chase Briscoe on the 77... his Grandfather used to field Sprint cars. First driver I saw in his cars was Dave Blaney in probably his first "hired" ride. When Dave moved on, son Kevin Briscoe ran pretty good in the family ride.
Looks like 3rd generation just bought his way there when the rest of the family raced their way up.

They did race at Mobile Intl last year but looks like they will not this year, but they are at Nashville.
I'll be pulling for the Lira Motorsports team at Tona with Ace Wrench Kenny Hellyer!
