For me the headlining division should be the one with the most cars in the pits. I went to New Smyrna last year every time the sportsman ran since they had great car counts. I'd pay 20 bucks to watch a big field of bomber cars race and I would be upset if I payed 20 bucks to watch 8 Super Late models race for 50 laps. I want to see a good field of cars not just the fastest class.

Andrew, you are correct, I had just forgot that Dustin goes to school up there. More information makes for a much more complete picture. You know I love you guys. I guess my question would be then, what do you think the solution is. Do you think that the tracks are holding back purse to put more in their pockets?

Super late model racing as a whole is not in that bad of shape in Florida when it comes to car count . But if you throw Rex Guy and Rick Williams in the mix they will pretty much destroyed it. Those two are pretty money hungry and self-centered. They could give a shit about the racers. All they care about is their wallet. And it is getting thin because of their previous decisions. So now they have to cut purses and raise cost to the racers to make up the difference. They threw Ricky Brooks into the mix to give their organization a little respect. That was almost enough for me to attend a few of their series races at DeSoto. We have actually already booked a pit slab for DeSoto. But now since they have cut the purse and the payout through the field I will take my new super late model and race elsewhere. With DeSoto teaming up with those two I'm sure super late model racing will go downhill at DeSoto really quick also. You might expect a few more cars to show up at De Soto compared to Auburndale last weekend because there's so many people like me who will not race with Rex Guy but I'm sure there will only be a few more cars. So for super late models in Florida for 2016 I'm sure the best shows you will get for attendance will be new Smyrna, Showtime and Five Flags. I wish them all luck.
I don't know if the tracks are holding back money but I can sure tell you that the purses are not anywhere near where they need to be. I think they just need to get off their butts and promote and get some sponsor money. You cannot pay the super late models a Sportsmens purse. You cannot pay the Sportsmens class a bombers purse. These promoters need to get their head out of the sand.

The problem is almost as much the racers fault as it is the promoters fault. Those 13 guys that went to Auburndale last week and told the promoters it's OK what you're doing. They told the promoter we don't mind racing for peanuts. They told the promoter you could cut the purse even more. Not me.
If they keep supporting these races the promoters will keep stabbing the racer in the back. Most of the racers don't have the nerve that I do to stand up and say "I won't take it anymore. I will take my car elsewhere." I will almost bet that by the time the series goes back to Auburndale again it will be single digit turn out. If not then that is a statement that the racers are saying "it's OK what you're doing.
You racers need to stand up and speak out. You know who you are. You're the one supporting these event. You guys keep letting it happen. You all need to stand up and I will be the first one to do it. I have already spoke. Does anybody else have the balls to speak out.
I hope to see some of you at Greenville Pickens where they actually pay the full purse for super late model race. $5000 to win 700 to start. I was told that the third-place finisher at Auburndale took home $700. Third place wow!!! that's a slap in the face. You'll get that for 26th Pl. at Greensville next weekend.
P.S. In previous years I have raced at the icebreaker when it paid 7000 to win. It went down to 5000 to win. And now they drop the purse to $2200 to win for the famous icebreaker 100. Any of the racers that support that prestigious of a race for that minuscule of the pay out should be ashamed of their self and should consider their self as part of the problem with super late model racing in Florida. I won't be a part of the problem I will be a part of the solution. Step up if you're man enough.
And all this comes from a previous race track owner. Myself

Nascar teams do not make no where near what it cost to run a car. SPONSORS pay the bills.
You need big money and/or sponsors to run the upper classes. The tracks should be paying more than they did in the 1990s !!
I remember what Sunshine did the last few years before they shut down.
The Latemodels were costing too much so they stopped.
Replaced them with OutLaw Latemodels. Streetstocks with slab bodies.
They had good car counts, Great Racing and most forgot about the latemodels and enjoyed good car counts and racing.
The latemodels have priced themselves out of the sport. need to cut back and make them more affordable then they would not need higher payouts that the tracks cannot give.
from the stands there is little difference in a sportman and a latemodel. after a few year no one will know........

So I think if I'm reading this correctly, what you're saying isspark your cars (go on strike) for higher purses? All that will be accomplished is exactly what Pun33 is saying. Supers will be replaced by lower priced classes. I know that if the tracks could afford to give you purses like you had mentioned, then they certainly would be doing that brother. Nobody is attempted to insult you. Tracks want the cars, and they want their racers happy so they keep returning. It just feels like you think the tracks are doing it be greedy, when in reality, most are just trying to keep the doors open. Now if your car is on jackstands out of economics, I get that. We all have to decide how and when we spend our money. On the other hand, if it's on jackstands out of principle, that's a sadly misguided principle and will not produced the desired effect. It only serves to further hurt the sport and vastly diminish any future chance at higher purses. Momentum is contagious, both positive, and negative momentum. As always, I enjoy the discussion and I have much respect for you guys. We don't always have to agree and that's ok with me. But you do have me curious now as to which track you owned?

No I don't think you're reading it correctly. I am not an advocate of keeping your car on jackstands. Nor is my car on jackstands per se. What I am saying is, go race where they pay a full purse and treat you with respect. And if they're not going to pay a full purse and treat you right don't go. I think the racers have already spoken with the car count at the first race of this new series. I think if they would've published the full payout through the field they may not have had 10 cars. Look, I've been doing this long enough to know that if you can't bring in at least 25 cars for the first race of a new series you will end the year with less than eight cars in the points. That means you only have about eight cars competing on a regular basis. Now what happens if you only start the year off with 13 cars. Do you end up with only four or five running for points. Pull this post up right after the final race of the series and we'll see how it goes.
The economy really isn't an issue. With my boy in college we have only been running about 8-10 select races. I may be one of the lucky ones. I build high-end homes for the lifestyles of the rich and famous on the island of Palm Beach. The economy really does not affect them. And I also have an international marble company across the hood of my car that contribute substantially to every race. They contribute enough that if I race a normal super late model race like at DeSoto. I have already turned a profit before I leave the house if I don't have any damage on race day. You have also noticed the two other associate sponsors on my car that helped take care of race day damage. I usually don't go to the track and less somebody is paying the bill.
That's not really the point. I built a super to run 100+ lap races for a nice purse. If I wanted to run for a smaller purse or less lap I would have kept my Pro Late Model ASA car or I would bring the Pro truck back down from Charlotte. I don't want to do that. I want to race my super in 100+ lap races for a nice purse and by God I will even if I have to travel out of state to do it.

As for the thing that has your curiosity. It is no big secret. A lot of the racers know me from there and have raced there. I resurrected, revived, rebuilt and owned the famed 6th mile paved oval better known as Martin Co. Kartway or Hobe Sound. Now grant it that it wasn't a stock car track. But it was a legitimate race track with all the same logistics of the stock car track. I still had to pay the lease, keep the lights and phones, pay the insurance, pay the staff, make sure the food vendor were set up, the bathrooms are ready. Make sure the communication system was working and all of the corner lights were operating. Make sure all the trophies were made and the timing and scoring was in place. I had to make sure the banquet fund was a cumulative properly and that the property was well-maintained. We raced an average of 24 races a year and we also held a practice day before every race day. Martin county Cartway is the oldest dedicated kart track in the state of Florida and is still being operated today. You can find them on the web I believe under South Florida Karting.com. We are very proud of our years at Martin County Parkway. Dustin and myself would like to think that the track would not be in operation today if it were not for all the hours and hard work we put in resurrecting it from the dead. We are proud to still be able to race there today.
But enough with the bench racing. I have to get out in the shop and get the car prepared for Greensville Pickens. Apparently I have some big names to deal with when I get up there. They will be adding another one to their list when we leave. And it's a 150 lapper!!! Wish us luck

You use the term "full purse". Very subjective wouldn't you say? Again, I think the tracks in FL are doing the best they can with what they have at the moment. Most drivers aren't going to drive 10 hours man. What you do suits your situation sure, but most people don't have your circumstances.
Expanding a little further, the PASS series is an entirely different animal. You have some amazing shoes towing all the way down from the northeast and the entire south region. It's the premier super late model sanctioning body in the country. Of course it's going to pay more! Paying a FL driver that hauled 75 minutes $3,300 to win three segments at Auburndale and $300 to start is a lot better than paying $5000 to win and $700 to start for someone who towed from Texas, Quebec, and Maine, and even Washington state(on the entry list)! Not to mention it's a 6 tire race and your entry is $200 (double Auburndale). The extra 2 tires and higher entry will completely eat up the difference in payout to start the race! And you may have to run a hooligan race to get into the field.
Cut A-dale some slack. Comparing a PASS race to the race at Auburndale isn't even fair. People will come from far away to see all the names in the PASS Series, and Greenville is charging $20 a head, where as Auburndale kept the price at $15.
All that being said because I do enjoy a nice civil debate, I do want to wish you guys all safe travels and good luck up there. You're going to be competing against the best, and it's a great test for all the drivers participating.

To Mr South 59
Instead of downing everything is being tried to help bring back late model racing in fla, why don't you try to help and say something positive about what is being tried. Until the tracks step up to the pump and work together, racing as a whole will continue to decline. I think what is going on with Auburndale and Desoto is a good step forward, let's give time to see if this works, at least they are trying and not just sitting behind a keyboard an try to send cars out of state. Send cars out of state sure is not going to help. Just because you do not like a track owner doesn't mean that they are losers, crooks, or any other name that you have called them. I am glad you like the out of state tracks, so go and enjoy yourself and have a great day.

12 good supers at Auburndale can put on a fantastic show and looking at the finishes several came from back to front and did just that, I wish I woulda been there. Triple 50's for that money doesn't seem too aweful imo. You run close to home on a track where it's unlikely you'll leave it all out there and have fun.
Sounds like the only guys that oughta be upset are the ones that didn't go.
