  • 2016 Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona

If anyone is heading down to Daytona at any point throughout the 4 day weekend from Thursday to Sunday, and would like to stop by our party site and tell some racing lies and consume some adult beverages. Feel free to shoot me a PM! I would love to meet some of you crazy people who love to hate me!

Have grandstand only tickets, but for the record, I hate to love you.

Hope y'all have a great time and avoid the authorities.

ps--For those possibly interested, what kind of wine coolers will you be serving this year?

pps--Say hello to that Scott guy for me.

      It's Raceday!

Coverage begins @2pm on Fox Sports One, I think the green is 2:30 or so.

Yes, it should be an interesting race with lots of story lines. I get a little depressed thinking I will most not likely ever run this race again, but I do have my memories! Here is our driver line up right after the finish of the 2009 Rolex 24 when we finished 10th.

It was a good race. A smaller differential in speed from the lower classes to the "prototypes" than ever before.

The Patron P2/Ligier Honda won. Given the rules, the best car won.

They saved a little for the end, neither the car nor the driver(s) ever looked stressed.

It was good to see the Corvette DPs run for the last time, they came up just a tick short.

And it was good to see the factory Corvettes win the GTLM class.

Yet another year has come and gone...

What an awesome battle between the yellow Vettes! Great to also see Scott Sharp's team win! He was always my favorite when he ran the Duracell Camaro back in the early eighties. That's where my paint scheme came from. Can't wait to run Daytona in April for 14 hours. That is if we survive Road Atlanta this upcoming weekend!

Anyone but me think the yellow factory corvettes were not really battling at the end but running "safe" per team orders?

It looked like follow the leader, run side by side for the camera at the line for the last 30 minutes to me...

              But then, I confuse easily.

they weren't running "safe" with 2 or 3 laps to go when they almost got together in turn 1
lets all take a long ride on a short bus.

I quit fishing because no one was standing at the docks handing out money when i got back, why did you quit racing?

Altered--Thx, that is why I asked...

                  Probably was influenced by:

                  >Back in the day on several occasions watched the Porsches and Fords (I think) finish in formation at the finish.

                  >From the stands it is at once overwhelming, but in another sense you are further away from the track than watching on TV.

                  >I had moved (ironically) from down by the turn into the infield to the other side of the start finish line so my journey back to the car in the lot across the street would be shorter. Probably changed my perspective.

                  >But the number one reason is that I am probably spoiled by the short track action that we have in Central Florida!

back in those days at the end of the race the positions were separated by laps. The year Nissan took the overall win they had such a big lead they pitted near the end to clean the car so it would look nice for the pictures.

                      Got it.

Assumed radio conversation simultaneously to both cars to the effect of "Look, we want a one-two finish for the headlines, not a 1-2 bozo crash. Don't crack them up, make it look good, especially at the line, and everyone keeps their job. And great job, guys!"

But it now appears to have simply to have been good hard racing.
