Heavy winds and cold temperatures have caused track owners to cancel

The skies are clear but the winds are heavy and frigid. Desoto Speedway Track owner decided to cancel tonight’s racing program due to the cold temperatures. “It was a business decision as I can’t afford to gamble on not having fans in the stands with such a high purse payout.” Said Denny Meyer. We have rescheduled the Florida Modified Invitational for February, 27th. The next scheduled event will be February 6th for the Sunoco Super Series Challenge/Randy Fox Memorial 104 plus all regular scheduled classes.

business decision?

The first business decision to make is, if I buy a race track in the state of Florida, my biggest challange is going to be the weather. I am going to have to deal with the summer rains, and possibly some kind of short Florida winter.

Two problems with having races in Janurary, weather is a 50/50 shot, and two, you are not allowing for an off season for the racers to rebuild and re-group there race teams.

In my opinion if you are going to schedule in January, you have to man up and take the loss, Another words, have deep pockets. New Smyrna has been doing it for years, they run a few races in January, and sometimes I am sure they lose there ass!

The business decsion should have been to start the season in late February as usual. Way to much hype for a race that never happened, because of 15-20 degrees.
