  • Desoto needs to make up their mind

Well hope this is not what we will have the rest of the year.

First we are told we can run our old tires until Feb 6 NOW we have to run American Racer on Jan 23

well I think that your old Hooshers would be much faster than new American racers so it would not be fair or sell tires.
everyone would show up with tires from some ware else and that would defeate the perpose of changing.

Don that is why they came up with the date of 2-6-16 to switch to AR tires so we could run our Hoosiers we have left over. Now there is no way we can do that with the new tire mandatory for the next race after 1-23-16 race.

The track dropped this on us and now we pay the bill, all I am trying to say make a rule and live by it.

The track put out a post clarifying that you couldn't run the Hoosiers for special races. Other classes on the 23rd may indeed burn up their old Hoosiers. But it's not fair for guys who need to buy tires as Mr. Nerone pointed out. It's a big race and I would say it's best for competition and fair for all drivers to be on the same tire. It's not a matter of the track making up it's mind. It was brought to the tracks attention and they had to make a decision that was fair to all. I think they did just that.

Modowner, they do not give a damn about the drivers position. It is all about the kickbacks and profit the track receives from tire sales. It's simply a clear cut decision by the owner. The owner knows we will be forced to buy the tires for their profit. If they were in business negotiations with American Racer they should have made the announcement 4-5 months ago so that drivers could spend accordingly and not be stuck with 5 new tires on the rack like I have. It's just poor management, that's why these track owners change and/or fail.

In case you guys haven't realized it yet, tracks are closing everywhere. If this decision to go to American racer tires helps the track financially, and saves the racer money, it's a win win for everyone. Now it might suck to have new Hossiers sitting in the trail, but I would recommend you sell them to someone running Showtime, or keep them for practice. If the track doesn't profit, they close and then your tires you bought will rot anyway. I guess what I'm saying is take a look at things from there point of view before bashing.

truck84 you forgot that Desoto went with the R750 last year. Showtime is on the Hoosier slick and NSS / 5 Flags are on the R750. Now we have 3 tires to race in the state. What is best for the track owners is not always good for the welfare of the drivers and owners. I hope it does not isolate drivers from other tracks.

Time will tell I know we will try the tire next week

We have not seen prices yet and the savings to the racers

I understand it makes it difficult, but the alternative isn't to promising. My hope is the American racer tires will be a good tire. From what I hear all the engineers from Goodyear went to work for American racer when they shut down there plant. I was told $499 a set, mounted, so that's close to 25 bucks a set. Which don't sound like much but Every little bit helps. Good luck this week, and let's hope the tires are fast and last.

                  American Racers

Truck84, I do understand what you are saying about the tracks position on this, but if the tracks would understand that if you don't have cars you have no show. For those who like to travel around and race now have to have three sets of tires, Hoosiers for Showtime and Citrus, American Racers for Desoto and Auburndale and for those who race at New Smyrna we run Hoosier Slicks. So how many drivers can afford that. So now we are stuck to run one track. Kind of takes some of the fun out of it. Just my view.

NSS is still on the Hoosier 750 this year. Not slicks.

                      changing tires

I have herd some reports on the American Racer tire test. Drivers were not impressed to say the least.

In my opinion the change was not good for the sport, with car count struggling, I see no way where this can be a positive for the sport in 2016.

I also keep hearing it is going to save the racer money, and there is going to be this huge point fund for all the racers to share at the end of the year. I to this day have not seen the 4 tire price for any of the classes, compared to the Hoosier Tire. I have also not seen any point funds advertised for any of the classes.

Having owned a business before my retirement, I would assume there is also more profit for the race tracks involved, which is fine in my book. At the end of the day, the tracks have to make money and profit. But if they are selling an inferior product to do that, then there is a problem for the racer down the road.

Guess we will all see the tires tested in action the next few weeks at our two local tracks. Track performance and car count will determine if this was a good move or not, my opinion is "not"

Just my two cents, Vince P.

                        Tires

As I said at NSS the class I race is on slicks. They have the Modified Mini Stock class on Slicks. This is the only track that requires this.
