  • high point/low point in 2015

Here is one for drivers, fans, owners, officials, mechanics or anyone in our crazy racing world. What was your high point in racing this year? And how about the low point?

My high point was the final race of the year for me. I only raced my car 5 times this year (I went through a divorce that consumed much time and resources). Although I had better finishes than this 6'th place, I knew I had improved and was pleased to be running in very good company.

The low point was during my summer vacation in NC. I rented a seat in a Legend car, and raced at Bowman Gray Stadium. Practice was fine, but I went out in a big wreck on lap 2 of the feature. Damn!

My son is a kart racer, so the high point for me was watching him swap the lead back and forth several times at Hobe Sound last winter.

High Point: A draw between pitting Joe & Jerome Jacalone's Ferrari and working on the #111 Sportsman car prior to it's win at the GuvCup.

Low Point: Being too ill to be there for Patrick Thomas's big night at NSS when he clinched the National Championship against all adversity.

Re: Your resource-draining-event. Condolences and/or congratulations in whatever % is appropriate.

Sentiment/consensus seems to be among those that have come out the other side: Moving forward, it is never um...idyllic (!), but it does get better than going through that deal.

Off the topic of racing, but here goes.

OS+, I will accept your congratulations. What started out as a year of heartbreak and depression, turned into a very happy year after all. I did a complete reset, as far as the home life was concerned, and met someone wonderful in April. We are 8 months along and are very happy. Yes, she actually likes racing too!

Seriously, it's a great Season to put a good foundation under things. The warmest of Holidays to you and (the new and improved) yours.

ps--buy "your first ornament together", you can't go wrong!

This would be a tough one for me, the entire season (all 8 races I was able to run) felt like a Low point lol, but there were some "highlights"

          To put things in perspective..

Highpoint: Winning a heat race at Showtime or Finishing 4th at New Smyrna My second time there and running alongside the likes of Jerry Symons, Tank Tucker.

Lowpoint(s): Getting taken out while stopped to avoid a wreck on lap 1 at my first race of the season at Desoto. Then the same thing happened at my last race, The Gov Cup modified race.

Needless to say, I am ready for the new season to start. Glad to see the Sprint Cars get another series rolling

My racing high point was winning both SCCA GT1 races at Sebring in October. Also making a new friend and great crew member, OS!

Hmmmm, low point..... when I am at a race it is hard to think of low points. I have been very fortunate and lucky over the years since I started my very first race at the age of 19 on the dirt at Putnam County. I don't need to win to feel successful. Just being involved makes me very happy!

I'm kinda with Joe on this one... several highs, not really a single low I can think of right now.

              Some of the highs....

Speedweeks, I saw probably close to 1000 race cars in 10 days, from the sands of Daytona, to NSS, VSP, Ocala, and DIS.

Sunday races.... I believe there was a possibility of seeing 6 or 7 Sunday shows in a row, if you're willing to travel... me and AB195 managed to hit 4 in 5 weeks....and had a BLAST don't it. It's complete BULLSHIT that the entire state (other than 5 Flags) runs on Saturdays.

The continued growth and national recognition that the Gov Cup weekend brings is a sign of great things to come... basically a Crown Jewel type accomplishment to win. VERY impressed by the talents shown by Ty Majeski.

Watching Kyle Bronson, in any class, at any place... is worth the price of admission alone. This kid is a rare talent, and to know he won almost 40 Features this year alone, has to impress.

..... Down side... as a fan.... Ocala decision to go back to Saturdays. Granted, I couldn't make all the Friday shows, I did make it to 4-5 this summer, I made it whenever I COULD make it. Now, I have about 6 tracks of comparable distance to choose from.

For me, the 'big picture' is looking brighter now than it has in years...

I'm still in love with, and supporting as I can, the greatest sport on earth.

PS - on the Gov Cup weekend. ... NSS needs to find a way to make the Sprint cars part of that weekend.

I have to agree with Frasson regarding the sprints. When one considers that the Governors Cup trophy is named in honor of a pretty good wheelman who rose to his indy career through the ranks of the sprints and midgets it would seem to be a no brainer. As for highs and lows lets just keep up the momentum from this year.

High for me: getting to see 27 Super Modifieds in action at Sandusky Speedway's annual Hy-Miler race. Cars towed in from as far away as Colorado and Nova Scotia. Also seeing Mansfield reopen this year after sitting since about 2009, and seeing a big Jeg's/ARCA CRA show on the schedule for 2016.

Low: losing my dad in November. He was a helluva crew chief, and won races with guys like Wayne Reutimann, Billy Gill, Dave Scarborough, Jim Childers, and a TON of others behind the wheel. He wanted to make it to the Governor's Cup; he missed it by a week. It would've been his 40th time.

Rex - great thread. Congrats on the new, fresh start, buddy.

Y'all have a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

2015 good, 2016 will be better..

High point: deciding not to points race and just go when and where I chose with no pressure. Used the time to travel, as far as Yellowstone, in the RV with family.
Low point: Loosing my finger, left index, doing something I've done hundreds of times that went very wrong in one second. It involved a winch, chain, and race car.
Oh well, have nine more, and I've learned to pick my nose with the pinky..
                      -JIM-

P.S. Congrats to my friend Rex. Good luck.
RIP Jack Smith and Kim Brown. Many thanks for all you have done for our sport.
