  • TS Fay: How'd everyone do...?

I know the coast got hammered pretty good. Here in southern central Florida, that silly thing just skirted us every time it passed. The theme parks stayed open (where I work ), but not too many people out, understandably.

Jane, you holdin' up alright over there?

Kindof. Still have some flooded areas around me and backyard is still kindof floating with the downed electric wire but thank goodness, it has been turned off. Mom and dad are waiting for their friendly canal alligator to come up in the backyard since the water is over the dock and to the edge of the seawall. Still have my son in the hospital, they thought he had a heart attack yesterday but thank God it was not but they still can't tell us why he is in so much pain and his chest and arm hurt.

Most of my pecan tree is gone along with a few others in the back and there are oak leaves and branches everywhere. South Courtenay still has flooded out areas which you need a canoe for but I am okay. Water came to the back door and was knocking but thank goodness, no one let her in but I did get some flooding in my living room and family room from the rain blowing so hard it came under the door into the house. So once again, I have some flood damage. Thank goodness the big oak in my frontyard is still standing and strong.

Thanks for asking Jimmy. This has definitely been a crazy storm for us.

Not just a bunch of rain, but it's also rain' baby squirrls. We have 3 survivors right now. Very small,no fir and eyes not open yet. Virginia is bottle feeding them and all is OK so far. May get more before it's all over.

I don't think that was a very nice thing to say round mound of racing. They should be commended for saving those baby squirrells! As someone once told me if you have nothing good to say don't say anything!

Squirrels are nothing more than tree rats. Wait till one decides to make a nest in your attic by chewing up your fascia boards or eating up the wiring under the hood of your car. Oh yeah, we had about 60 people here a few months ago quarantined because they came into contact with a family that had "rescued" a few baby squirrels that happened to be rabid.

I didn't know that they had attics in single wides or park models. What does it matter when they chew through the wires under the hood of a car on cinder blocks any way? I have raised squirrels before and they are intelligent and make good pets!

I'm staying out of the squirrel arguement. As for the storm, it's still a little gusty here at times, but it seems to be dying down. Got lots and lots of rain here in Belleview, but no flooding that I've seen. We lost a bunch of huge elephant ears and a large bush in the backyard, but other than that we're ok.

Those darn squirrels get in the floor of my doublewide. Personally I like them cooked in lots of tomato sauce but it's not worth the effort to skin them. Now if they don't have any fur yet, maybe, just maybe. NOT.

                        Rabies??

Back in the 70's I got bit by a squirril. I was petting him and he took ahold of my knuckle thinking I had something to eat. After he bit me I chased that dumb squirril for 45 minutes. I went to the health Dept in 2 countys and they both told there had never been a case of a squirril having Rabies in recorded history. After I reported it the state of Florida sent me a letter saying the same thing. Bob...

                          Hendry county speedway

I was in Hendry county wednesday and I was going to stop by the speedway but couldn't even get down the road to the track. It looked like the road was under about 4-5 ft of water. I went in untill the water was up to the running boards then I backed out, I only got about 30 ft.off the road, the building right there on 27 was full of water and they were loading up all the animals from out back.

My bad, it was a rabid baby coon. It is possible for a squirrel to have rabies. It is rare though. Only 8 documented cases of rabid squirrels since the 1950s. I would bet there are more with it than that its just that human interaction with squirrels is very limited.

                              What Up ??

Holy Crap !!!! Didn't mean to start all this drama over baby squirrels.
We don't keep them any longer than needed. Turn them loose when they start eating on their own and want to go. They come for visits and treats.
If one of them chews on my race car.....I'll shoot the little bastard !! they have never,in 20 years here, chewed into my attic. (we have cats).
Anyhow, we are up to 5 babies now. Not big enough for a meal though Winger....LOL
