That is the car. I believe that was an early photo during testing. Most likely some changes were made later.

Whether or not a front engined car could be successful, i don't think we will ever see many manufacturers try, as the layout is way more difficult than a mid engined setup. Weight distribution aside, with the mid engine your drivetrain is in one tidy package. Most times, they use the gearbox and engine as stressed members of the chassis, saving the addition of more components.

OS, can you imagine what kind of lap time a Porsche 919 LMP1 car would turn at New Smyrna?

its all about center weight, and really, you are only swapping the driver and motor
But most drivers weigh far less than a motor, also i would think the airflow to the rear wing would be better on a mid engine car.
lets all take a long ride on a short bus.

I quit fishing because no one was standing at the docks handing out money when i got back, why did you quit racing?

Nissan tried with tunnels throughout the body work to enhance downforce. Even if they would have gotten the ers system working, I don't think they would have been as competitive as Porsche Audi Toyota. And these days it's all about regenerating power in the p1 class..
