  • LMP1 Nissan

Nissan discontinued lmp1 program today and laid off all employees. Car was doomed from the beginning. It sure looked cool though.

Just shows that sometimes innovation does not equal performance

"[The Nissan LMP1] Car was doomed from the beginning."--Cake

      Correct, from inherently flawed engineering.

Most of the time you can dig your way out of a bad deal with money, but not all of the time...

In my opinion, that makes 2 bad endeavors with their involvement with the stupid looking Deltawing.

As a fan, I appreciate the innovation. And if it would have been competitive, it would have been awesome.

The delta wing is a penis with wheels. Katherine Legge drove the crap out of it though.

            Re: Delta Wing

            > Actually surprised me at how well it does work (not that it works all that well).

            >IMSA has varying air inlet restrictors to "balance performance". It is my understanding that it has been used to bolster the performance of that "car".

            >It is my further understanding that it is largely balanced on the rear wheels, rather like a Segway with a front canard aiming device.

            >Joe, what kind of verbiage is that? It is by no means "stupid looking". A much more accurate description is moronic looking!

I would like to see a front motor DP car though, with rear wheel drive.

For fun, check out another oddity @ the Rolex:

            http://www.racingsportscars.com/make.../Cannibal.html

I believe it was a re-bodied Olds Aurora that raced as a Daytona Prototype.

Seems like I read an article in which the owner proudly stated "We never once put sticker tires on that car!".

I can understand your appreciation of innovation. I think my problem is I am just too much of a conformist.

That thing was for sale a loooooong time, just pure coyote ugly!
If you remember, the Panoz LMP cars were front engined.

                  Re: Panoz

                  Another butt-ugly car, imo.

What is up with that anyway?

Typically a front engined car--long nose--short deck, is inherently good looking.

Modifieds are better looking than a Panoz, by a long shot.

ps--At the Rolex(s), I typically follow the leaders a little, but also pick a back marker or two and sort of pull for them also. The "Cannibal" was one such car.

As you know, Joe, sometimes I am a little odd myself...

Ford had a front engined prototype car as well, as I recall.

Turbo four, as I recollect, when the SVO turbo mustang four cylinder jobs were theoretically their top model.

It too, never performed very well.

ps--Re: Joe/conformist...true, perhaps...but when that helmet goes on, his eyes take a hard set.

Do not under estimate Mr. Jacalone if he is behind you.

I remember that car, too! You are too kind about me, you must be looking at a picture from about 20 years ago

                        You scare me.

Of course, your Crew Chief, Kenny, also scares me...

So in your guys opinion, will there ever be a front engined sports car designed that can be successful? I mean it can't be a financial issue or lack of resources causing the failure..

I think that is the car. The front end and the paint seem familiar, but the greenhouse seems a little big.

Of course, it may be because I am used to looking at P Thomas' swoopy #111. Joe?

Re: Front engined cars--I believe they could work, certainly they would have a better chance than the ugly-A knee-san.

It is all about center weight, and really, you are only swapping the driver and the motor. The transaxle could still be in the rear.
