How About a Little Personal Responsibility

I know you are from the North, and nobody is responsible for anything up there, and we live in a land of micro-aggression and "radicalization" (the poor dears).

And I have watched you drive, and believe you are a Man with plenty of Brass on the left side of the car.

But jeez, the little candy cane aces that read that tripe, believe it and act on it ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN CHOICE, not the clowns that wrote it. The power is in each individual to make their own choice. If they want to stay home, let them.

If I want to stay home, regardless of why, I will. It is their right--and choice--as well.

Again, looks to me like you guys have a lot to learn from The South. Like going to the races rather than staying home and whining.

Let us know if we can help.

How to Save Racing Up North

(In fact, here is some unsolicited "help" right now!)

I have seen the old school Northern Crowd during speed weeks, and it clearly ain't them you are talking about.

They are tough, will sit in the rain, the cold, the dirt clods, until 3 in the morning for night after night after night.

So it must be "The Millenials" or "Young Losers".

      Tell them to:

      >Put the phone down
      >Bathe
      >Move out of Mommy's house
      >And pull their pants up.

Let me know when ya got that going on, and we will discuss next steps.

"Admitting you have a problem is the first step to Recovery"

You continue to live in 1975, and that's alright. You want to believe things are still that good. By all means, do your thing. But the younger generations my age, a little older and a little younger, are part of a major problem right now. I can't hold anyone's hand. But if it doesn't stop, it will eventually be an aid in the collapse of Short Track racing across this country.

Media is absolutely one of the most influential things in this world. Sad, but true. And media can be just as bad as it can be good.

My whole point, is think twice before you say something. It's something many parents have told their children since they were little things. It was told to us all for a reason growing up.

With that, it's 4:00 and I am heading down the highway. Have a wonderful and safe Holiday my friend.

RE: '75. Got it, things were booming then and less so now.

"Admitting you have a problem is the first step to Recovery"--pj

I am not denying jack, but you may be obsessing...

Am just cool with it, and thankful to have been part of the Sport then and now. I can see a day when everyone gets on mass transit and maybe they will (only) have one series of electric formula type cars televised, perhaps with government controlled wagering.

          Oh well.

But from your perspective, if you want to enact change, I would suggest attacking all of your "problem" sites at their source, with positives. Many have apparently had other deals with Bobby Diehl, but that is what he does, in effect.

In other words, counter act negativity with positive things to say--how great the show is, etc. etc. I know you do the Sids View thing, and that is a positive.

re: Happy Holidays, you and all the yankees have one as well.

          Merry Christmas, Phil.

              Doug,

Since I was young, I have dressed, fixed my cruiser bikes, slot track, cars, etc. the way I wanted, as opposed to whatever is currently in style. I thought for myself, in other words, as I would like to think most racers, and fans, also do.

Folks seem to like my "taste" at car shows, but that is a sidebar.

What is at issue (imo) is whether the clowns typing the "anti-racing" rhetoric are "at fault", or the clowns reading and supposedly acting on it.

I maintain it is the right of folks to bitch, right or wrong, in type, and there is no way to stop it, at any rate.

Further maintain that those that act upon it, whether it is a social cause or attending the races are weak--but nonetheless it is also their right to be so.

SO, the only way to combat negative social media--if one chooses to do so-- is with positive social media.

And endless open ended complaining on KARNAC does not qualify as "positive" nor is helpful, imo. In fact, it underlines the fact that negative media exists and is effective, to some extent--assuming it is.

Now, I am rather fond of Phil and do not mean to insult him, just think his talents and efforts would be better served through other means.

If you would have read what I wrote thoroughly, sir, you would have seen that I clearly pointed out that people need to think before they speak, that is what causes the damage and that there is a better way to deal with things that create less issue. You have a very strong tendency to skip over things and change the way things were meant to be said. Doug's quote at the end of his post is dead on.

Er, I did, and believe I understand it, and my point in posts number 46 & 51 directly respond to it.

Here it is again: What is at issue (imo) is whether the clowns typing the "anti-racing" rhetoric are "at fault", or the clowns reading and supposedly acting on it.

I disagree with your premise, and your solution.

Regarding Doug, I was/am uncertain where he is coming from because the first part of his statement seem incongruous with the latter part.

Both he and you certainly have a right to your opinion.

I just think you are throwing gasoline on the fire. Have you seen a significant reduction in anti track flaming since you have been posting this point on KARNAC?

                    old school

                    I liked the part about the kids pulling up their pants and putting down the phone........sorry for the confusion. Heres an example of positive;

Did anyone know that Josh Todd raced a winged sprint at the last Showtime race. I believe it was his first time out and he kicked butt IMO. He was given the oppurtunity by one of the best men this sport has Mr. Tony C. and had another fine man in the pitts with him the one and only (battman). He qualified 5th and ran a clean race. his car looked to be getting loose going in towards the end but he kept it under him and stayed out of trouble.

So let me get this straight... You disagree with the fact that rather than hopping on Facebook, Twitter etc and venting, people should actually handle problems like adults and then men that they should be, and go directly to management/race directors/tech officials and try to solve the problem amicably?

With all due respect, your perception of reality is TWEAKED!

When people take to social media to rant/vent etc, rather than being a man and trying to handle it like a man, then that makes them a coward in my eyes. Sadly, people in this effed up world would rather take the lazy way out, post a rant and see how many of their friends like and share it. They however, do not look at the consequences of their actions. I have been guilty in the past as I have said, but I learned the flaws in my ways, changed, and now have a fantastic relationship with management at both tracks I use to have issue with. On more than one occasion, I have been called upon for my opinion at both.

Bottom line, there is a right way and a wrong way to handle things. Freedom of speech is fine, however in this ever so fragile sport we have today, consequences of words and actions can be dire.

Why would anyone want to damage this sport that they claim to love so much?

I have to pack and get ready for my week and then work on racecars. I am done here (horray) for the foreseeable future. It's just as ridiculous as I remembered it.

I came into this sport late in life. 33years old. I never had the pleasure of watching the greats race. But I will tell you that the young man is a true wheel man. i just wanted to give him some props but didnt want to start a thread about it. sorry to hi jack.

                            Phil,

Actually I do agree with the premise regarding what they "should" do, but it is neither here nor there. It is what it is.

The question is what do we do? I go to the races and spend money and get my hands greasy. I speak highly (for the most part) of the tracks, the competitors--even you (!).
