MODIFIED 50, PRO LATES, BOMBERS & FUN FOR THE FAMILY THIS SATURDAY NIGHT AT NEW SMYRNA SPEEDWAY
New Smyrna Speedway hosts a night of great racing and family fun this Saturday night for week number 31 of the NASCAR All-American Racing Series. Racing will feature a 50-lap shootout for the Modifieds plus action in the Pro Late Models and the Bombers. During intermission all kids and their parents will be invited to take to the track for the popular "Tire Races."
The Modified class has a tight three-way battle for the point lead with Jerry "The Hammer" Symons of New Smyrna Beach holding a slim two point edge over his arch rival and fellow New Smyrna resident James "Tank" Tucker. Matt Wheeler, also of New Smyrna, sits a close third in the running just eight points behind Symons. Expect those three to be in the field and to be challenged by the likes of Alan Bruns, Robert Deal and several others looking for a big payday.
The Pro Late Model point race also has a close battle between three drivers. New Smyrna's Zach Jarrell is just three markers up on fellow New Smyrna resident Blaise Hetznecker with young Noah Cornman of Mt. Dora nine points behind Jarrell in third.
In the Bombers, Aaron Overman of Orlando has taken over the point lead from Melbourne's James Skinner after Skinner's spate of recent bad luck. The two are the only ones in the running to take the championship this year and it is very close with Overman just two points up now on Skinner with four races left.
Pit gates open at 3 pm Saturday afternoon with practice slated from 4-6 pm. Grandstand gates open at 6 pm with the weekly pre-race party featuring food and drink specials at the Throttle to Bottle Pub along with live music courtesy of Pub 44 in New Smyrna Beach. There will be a bounce house for the kids courtesy of Central Florida Raceway Ministries and a petting zoo from Pony Tales.
The Modifieds will qualify at 6:15 pm with racing starting at 7:30 pm beginning with a 25 lap feature for the Pro Late Models. Intermission is next with the kid/parent tire races taking place. After the family fun is concluded, the Modifieds go at it for 50 laps and the Bombers wrap up the evening with a 20 lap contest.
Adult admission is $15 with all seniors (65+) and military with valid ID being admitted for $13. Kids 11 and under get in free.
A reminder to fans that the Hart to Heart Breast Cancer Foundation at New Smyrna Speedway is a nonprofit organization set up in 2014 that began collecting money because track owner Jane Hart wanted to use the speedway to help others. Mrs. Hart decided to support breast cancer patients because of how many people are affected by this disease. 100 percent of all money collected goes directly to breast cancer patients in the local New Smyrna area.
During October Breast Cancer Awareness Month there are several activities taking place during the Saturday night races at New Smyrna Speedway that benefit the Hart to Heart Foundation including pink lemonade sales, "Bra Pong," "Pink-O" (a take-off on the Price is Right Plinko game), Hart to Heart t-shirts and the Coke Zero bicycle raffle. The beautiful bike has been donated by Daytona Beverage and will be raffled off on October 24th. The winner will also get a pair of tickets to the 50th Anniversary Florida Governor's Cup race on November 15th. Please participate and support this great cause!
